I'm feeling half and half. Some of the things made me go "Oh wow, omg!" and some of the things made me go "OMG, CARVER I HATE YOUR FUCKING GUTS" but I'm willing to wait. and let me say, Jared--just brilliant. Jensen was his usual excellent self, Misha was interesting, very bright, very engaging and Jared just about *killed* me. He did, he made me water up. SAAAAAAAAAAAM!!

I still want to kick Carver in the nuts. I don't think I've ever really felt this way about a showrunner and I watched Smallville for all the years. You SV peeps know what I mean.

I went into it with other expectations--in this instance, it would have been better if I'd caught spoilers. One the one hand, I like what they've done in terms of what the actors can do with it, on the other hand, I was hoping for an end to secrets. But aside from that, it was one of the most beautiful opening eps ever, and one of the strongest in my opinion, since the sixth season opener. It was odd because I'd gotten used to the time jumps and I kept waiting for Sam to look healed, lol!

I was horrified that Dean let Sam get possessed but realistically, it had to be done or no Sam, I get that. Then again, Cas looked very pleased to hear that the angel that repsonded to Dean was Esekiel. That's good, right?

It's thought provoking for sure. I hated Carer last year and I haven't changed my mind yet. mind you, I'm in the (apparently) small minority who loved Sera.

Yes, secrets suck, and Dean looked *so gutted*, but he's right in that if Sam rejects Ezekiel/Esekiel out of hand, he'll die. And Sam's 'i want it over' notwithstanding.....

You know, I don't even know what I was expecting--it was that kind of thing you know? I guess I wanted Sam healed, and the brothers finally on the path to straightening their shit out. But as I was lounging back and drinking my half-caf coffee, it occurred to me that their shit will never get ironed out and that's family and that's RL. Doesn't mean that they don't have each others back forever and beyond.

So, Ezekiel must be the Angel of Slippery Business, 'cause that was slick as hell the way he got permission from Sam. I WANT TO REWATCH it right now but I have an early day at work tomorrow and it would be wrong to go in late because I was up late watching my show again...or would it?

I loved Sera too. I didn't really hate Carver until tonight. This whole story is so wrong, yet it got me hooked. If this episode is anything to go by, I think I'm going to hate-love season 9.

Welp, I watched it. Best parts: Cas' initiation into mortality (hellllloooo, Misha in only boxers!), Dean and Ezekiel haggling, and my favorite, Death, making a cameo (with bonus points for Crowley pouting in the trunk and faux-Bobby). Overall, I'm ambivalent and, dare I say it, underwhelmed. But, like you mentioned earlier, I stuck out Smallville for ten fuckin' seasons, so this isn't an altogether unfamiliar position with regard to Show. Still, this premiere was decent--better than three and five but can't hold a candle to two or four. I think SpN's season premieres almost adhere to the Star Trek movies rule of evens and odds, evens rocking and odds fucking blowing.

So, we'll see. I'll love it even and especially when I hate it because it's our boys, right?

I've always felt the season premieres were a little weak, with the exception of 2 and 4. I thought this one was on the better side though. I wanted to be done with the secrets, but that's unrealistic. It wouldn't be Supernatural without the Dean angst. It was really hard to watch Dean not be able to let go of Sam.

It was a beautiful ep.

I really loved it.

Because the Ezekiel thing is outright rapey and Sam was, like, AT PEACE and had Death's approval and promise of it being over, and Dean KNEW that and went ahead anyway because a) he is not and never will be ready to live without Sam, and b) he thinks saving Sam's life is always the right choice, whether or not Sam wants it.

And it all sucks, and I don't know how Sam will forgive it, especially since Dean's keeping it from him, but this is, like, what the show's about. This struggle and this codependence and this intense love between the two of them, and it makes for SUCH GOOD DRAMA.

Jared is so fantastic. And I'm pretty psyched for human Cas.

I'm thinking season 9 is going to be one of those seasons--when it's good, it's very, very good and when it's not, very not. Still, having had time to reflect, the ep was actually pretty much straight up fanfiction and darn good fanfiction at that, so I'll be on board. :)

Yes, I think so. But maybe my memory has softened on that front over the years. Every once in a while, there'll be a Michael- and/or Tom-related gifset at Tumblr, and I'll go gaga for them all over again, so at least I'm remembering the GOOD stuff. :)
