Letter From Ireland Part 2

Here's another letter from My Beloved Niece, about her trip to Prague...poor baby...

How Leyla Went to Prague and Stuff Happened

So, because an email detailing the whole trip will take days to write and will be probably at least 4 pages long, I've decided that no one deserves that sort of punishment, especially not me considering how though I'm glad I went, Prague more or less ripped me a new one. But at least I wasn't the only one; Carolyn also came home walking slightly different from the lubeless anal raping Prague issued her. I will, however, write out an entire email detailing the trip as much as possible, because I know at least one person who will want to read the whole thing *winks and smiles at her heterosexual lifemate* Love you, baby.
So, in the meantime, I just choose the highlights and low points of the golden city of Prague. If you want the shoel story, just email me and let me know, and when it's done, whenever it's done, I'll be sure to send it to you, and then take note of it so I know whether or not to bring you home a present.

Saturday
+We figured out how to use the metro and get to the hostel relatively unharmed. I was pleased with us for that, because first off the plane, we were, to say the least, slightly disoriented.
+The city itself is just mind bogglingly beautiful. My first day I took an obnoxious amount of pictures, but gave up, because if I took a picture of every beautiful building, I would do nothing but run around the squares with a digital camera perpetually on the verge of running flat or running out of space. And sadly, the pictures, I feel, will never do it justice.
+I had a traditional Czech (or Hungarian? Austrian?) dinner of Goulash and bread dumplings at a really lovely restaurant for the equivalent of ten euro. The apple strudel Carolyn and I split was amazing; I can tell you, especially Ariane and Becky, Prague is a city just made for altos. Also, the outside of our hostel was lovely.
-The inside of our hostel sort of blew. There was no kitchen or common area, as was suggested by their website, and the staff was not the friendliest people I've ever encountered. You had to lock yourself in the room (which was odd), they turned off the heat at night, for what reason I cannot fathom, and they prohibited the use of electrical appliances. So, four mornings in Prague with a damp skull. Thank you, Hostel Vesta, for giving the gift that keeps on giving--a head cold.
-Carolyn lost about 1500 crown, which is equal to about 50 euro, I think. It slipped out of her pocket, at some point. And, OF COURSE, it wouldn't be me if we didn't...
-get lost. Yes, the streets of Prague at night, while although pretty, make a person nervous. Especially if you wander too far away from the main squares. We made it back, how, I'm not sure, I'm pretty certain that this is one of the parts of the trip that I'm starting to block out.

Sunday
+We went to the Jewish Museum, which was very interesting, and my favorite part was the Jewish cemetery, which has bodies buried on top of one another for 12 layers. The tombstones date back to about 700 years ago, and the sight of all of them is just amazing. Course, I felt like a horrible person taking pictures, but hell, they're dead right, what do they care? I wanted to remember it.
+We went to the Prague Sex Museum. Need I say more? I also got to accompany Carolyn while we went through her first porn, a black and white from the 30s, I believe. It was a bonding moment, I tell you what.
+Carolyn had to see the superbowl, and while in a Czech sports bar, and an English couple told us that with our American accents we sounded just like movie stars. *blush!* Aw, shucks.
-We were supposed to go on a night cruise tour; however, the tour company stood us up. I got stood up by an entire company...that's just cruel.
-Carolyn, flustered from having lost money, went to an exchange place and got about 2000 crown. It was an excellent rate, and she felt clever for having gotten more money then the 50 euro she traded was worth. I'm sure you smart individuals may be thinking, hmm, that's odd. Wait til Monday for the dramatic conclusion of this section.
-I ate about 20 pounds of meat. At one smaller restaurant, I wanted to see what the "Czech Plate Special" was. It was every kind of meat imaginable, including HALF A DUCK. I didn't want to waste my money and knew I wouldn't eat any more that night, so I had the most carnivorous experience of my life.
Monday
+We took a tour around the city, and we saw a lot of neat things. My two favorites were, firstly, the Astronomical Clock. Every hour, it has a clock work mechanism that makes the figures on the clock move and such-it was just very cool to see. Half of my memory card was dedicated to this site.
+Secondly, St. Vikus Cathedral in Prague Castle. There are no words. It was just...wow.
+The ghost tour, from which the title of this email comes. Oh, oh, it was so cheesy, and I loved every second of it. We heard great little ghost tales, on of which included a Turk.
And who doesn't love a good story about a Turk?(she’s half Turkish, the little Minx!)
-On part of the tour, our guide explained to us that sometimes when you change money Gypsies will give you an excellent rate because they're not really giving you real money; It's actually old Bavarian money that is worthless.
...FUCK.
-We almost lost the tour at one point, and if you had been on the streets of Prague in the Jewish quarter around noon on Monday, you would have seen two self-proclaimed fat kids streaking down the streets of Prague in search of the six hour tour they paid 1000 crown for. And, you probably would have laughed. You bastard.
-When we arrived home, we suddenly and mysteriously had roommates, both of which were asleep, and one of which I was pretty sure was a guy. Awwwwwwkkkkkwwwaaaarrrddd.
Tuesday
+We went to the Museum of Communism, which was cool and interesting, and I thought the Political propaganda section was very intriguing.
+I now know exactly how to get to the US Embassy of Prague, and know that several of the guards there are hot.
+We got home safe.
-I lost my passport.
-I didn't get to go to the Mucha Museum, which really is so disappointing. I thought it would make up for me missing the Dali exhibit in Philly. Instead, I got to see the US Embassy.
-I had to pay for the lost ticket and a new passport, expenses I hadn't exactly figured into my budget. But it figures. It's me after all. I should have known some ridiculously bad thing would happen to me. However, on the upside, it probably made Carolyn feel better.

So, it was great and terrible.
...And that's all I have to say about that.
As always, I love and miss each of you, and I will say some of you got presents from Prague. Yay for you.
Love,
Leyla
