So, this is what's up...

…last year—I think it was last year—I started a story that I couldn’t finish. I took it down, and dumped it, but kept large bits and pieces from it, because I liked them. I think I know how to go forward with it now, and I worked on it some on my vacation. (vacation--laughs bitterly)

So, here’s the thing, some of you are going to recognize parts of this story. (huge parts.) Is it kosher to recycle parts of a fic and call it new? Would you mind? I kind of like this direction plus, it’s much lighter for god’s sake than what’s been showing up here lately, sheesh! I’m about to start working on my Babyboy, (Alexei,) but this is kind of calling to me too. *shrug* I’m sure ya’ll will let me know what you think.

Say, have I told you lately how adorable you’re looking? Hmm? *winkwink*

it's your story - it's perfectly kosher to recycle or reuse - especially if you have pulled down the original version already. You might want to give you explanation over again in the disclaimer, just to stop people from going insane trying to figure out where they have read some bits of it before - but there is nothing wrong with reworking and re-posting it. I have certainly done that a few times and no one has given me a problem.

Welcome back!

I don't see a problem with recycling.

Say, have I told you lately how adorable you’re looking? Hmm? *winkwink* Why, thank you! *preens*

No problem as far as I can see sweetie, it's your material from an unfinished story. I just think it's great that you were able to salvage and get re-inspired by the bits that worked for you.

It's called rewrites and editing, they do it all the time in hollywood. ;)

Hey, you own the rights to it, so you're free to do with it what you will. Well, okay, so none of us actually own the rights to any of this stuff, but you know what I mean. ;P And since I wasn't around then to read it, it'll all be new to me, so yay! :)

Yes, I think it's okay, but preferable to include the disclaimer.

Then again, I've been known to recycle whole scenes for different fandoms from unfinished stories - though I am very, very careful to make sure any characterisation changes needed are added.

I write RPF/S and once used a scene from an unposted Matt Damon/Ben Affleck/Gwyneth Paltrow story for a (very, very) AU Jude Law/Ewan McGregor/Alicia Silverstone story.
