Old Wine

Lex sits on the couch, laptop on his knees; coffee Clark brought him still warm on the table.

Clark’s on the floor, absorbed in the books fanned out around him. Writing a paper on Alexander the Great, and who better to come to for help than his modern day Alexander.

Lex feels secure, warm. And why shouldn’t he? His beautiful boyfriend, as beautiful as the sun, is right here where he should be. How lucky was he? Everything he could ever want or need was right here in front of him.

He watches the boy scratch pen across paper and every so often his brow scrunches –adorable—and his lower lip slides forward. He thinks of all the times he’s grabbed it between his teeth and every time is like the first time—how could he ever tire of that?

Clark rolls to his side and looks up to catch Lex looking—blushes and smiles. He loves when Lex looks at him, he loves when he touches him more. He’s working on getting Lex to ignore those silly rules and do more—he swears to Lex he’s getting carpal tunnel syndrome, never mind that Lex laughs and claims you can’t get it from jerking off. Lex and his silly rules are to blame. He was old enough, who should know better than he? Plus he knew that Lex at his age had already done everything there was to do, (or pretty sure he had anyway ) it wasn’t fair and Lex was just being unreasonable!

Lex sighs. He knows exactly what’s going through Clark’s one-track mind---the kid’s an open book and every thought shows on his face.
A few more months, that’s all, and then…

He turns his attention back to his laptop, tries to ignore the gusty sigh floating up from the floor and presses his lips tight to keep from smiling. Decides to check his personal mailbox—

Okay, dozens of e-mail from Clark, all saying the same thing in different ways—
I love you, let’s fuck—hormones…

He scrolls down and stops, shocked.

Clark makes a small noise and when he looks down at him Clark looks concerned. It never fails to amaze him, to warm him, how attuned Clark is to his feelings, he reads him like a book, like—

He smiles at Clark and goes back to the e-mail.

BWE1

God. He feels cold, scared for a moment to be honest.

Bruce.

It’s been a while, a long while since he’s talked to him, seen him besides at social functions, a hello and just as quickly a good bye. He talks to Alfred more than he’s talked to Bruce in the last few years and they don’t talk about Bruce.. Ever.

And now he’s contacting him. Why?

Clark is really looking concerned now, and Lex has to reassure him.

“Hey Clark. Is there a problem?”

“Lex, you don’t look so good—bad news? Is your dad giving you a hard time again?”

Innocent words that send a wave of black ice through him. Images that most times he manages to push down to the bottom of his mind, rise and threaten to overwhelm him. Why the fuck does Bruce have to get in touch with him? He’s happy now. He’s got everything in order, and he’s happy.

Clark can’t stand to see Lex look upset. He scoots over to Lex and makes him move the laptop and drapes himself over Lex’s knees. He pulls his smooth head down and kisses him slowly, deeply, with every bit of his feeling for Lex poured into it. Lex hums in satisfaction, and the ice trying to lock around d his heart thaws and recedes again. Safe, safe again—

he loves Clark so much it hurts, he feels like he could die of it sometimes—the thought makes him shiver, a little whip of that awful ice flicking him as it melts.

And like a cage breaking open, he knows he *does* miss Bruce.

Clark moves away again, smiling at Lex and Lex smiles back. Satisfied that it was better, whatever it was (and Lex would tell him if he felt he needed to know) he goes back to his paper, and Lex opens the mail.

Lex,
How are you? I know how you’re doing in a business sense, good job tweaking that old bastard. I’d like to know how you’re doing personally. I don’t keep track of your private life. I never would.
Do you ever think of me? I think of you. Every day. What we went through—
Lex. I need to see you. I need it very much. I never begged you—once, just the once, and not for me but now I’m begging you for me. Please. Please let me see you. It’s hard to keep away and I don’t know what to do with this pain—

Lex looked again at the bright faced happy kid stretched out on his floor, doing his homework, doodling on the margins of his notebook. There was a plate scattered over with cookie crumbs next to him, an empty glass with a trace of milk in the bottom in danger of being knocked over by one elbow. He was entirely beautiful. And entirely normal. Oh, he has some secrets, some things he keeps to himself, but he’s going to realize soon they don’t need secrets between them and he’ll tell all, --and I’ll tell him about me--Lex thought.

He looked down at the screen and the scream on it. He shook his head, and rolled the cursor over delete. Forward. That was what life was about-- moving forward.

But Bruce…saved him. Roll away.

Clark completes him. Roll back.

Bruce loves him still. Roll.

Clark is the sun and the moon and just everything—roll.

But Bruce saved him.

The cursor quivers, shakes, over the symbol for delete….

Well, first you should know that if my little world here was any more AU, it'd be taking place on another planet!

why is Lex bald? is he a mutant or what? And how much younger is Clark, and how does Lex end up in Smallville meeting Clark?

well, according to Smallville the Show,Clark is younger than Lex by five or six years, but his parents did guess at his age so who knows? Lex was caught in the meteor storm that brought Clark to Earth, and the meteors are composed of green kryptonite, a mutagenic. Lex loses his hair as a result and is also a mutant to a certain degree, able to heal quickly(canon, but more fanon)He's sent to Smallville by his dad, has an accident and hits Clark with his car, Clark saves him when the car goes flying into a river (and this is REALLY boiled down from what happened)--friends 4evah.

What REALLY happened was, Lex and Clark are schoolmates, same age, Lex is an antisocial genius geek who can't get along with anyone but Clark--he admires him. I remember that he's injured in an explosion that has something to do with wanting to with Clark, but not Clark's fault--maybe he's trying to help Superboy? Because in the comic Superboy was flying around in the gear and all...but that was Golden Age DC and they must have changed that origin story,I'm sure--Bruce never met any of them as a young boy, and I think he's younger than them by a year or two.
I'm not sure, but I think there may have been a change in that too- I think I saw a comic scan with a storyline of Bruce meeting Clark, briefly as a child...anyway--there you go!

And as far as happy endings go, Lex and Clark are destined to fall out--The Rift--comic canon also.
But it' my world and I can do what I want! Though I'm with you, no threesomes, because Bruce couldn't do that, it's hard enough for him with one person!

"no threesomes, because Bruce couldn't do that, it's hard enough for him with one person!" Yeah, i can totally get that. It's funny, at the end of RTM, i was more worried about him than about Lex. Thanks for the explanation!
