Okay. Feel free to say no or tell me to bugger off or whatever, but you're the only person on my flist that I know to be of color, so I was wondering if I could e-mail you a bit-o-fic and find out if you feel it's offensive?
The problem I'm having is that I want to write a slave!fic for a fandom that's set just after the American civil war, in a slight AU universe where the war hasn't been fought yet...it has a 'visually white' character who (in this story) has a spot of black on his pedigree and a runaway slave for a mother up on the auction block, and his brother that he's never met doing the purchasing.
I don't think I've written something that will legitimately offend people, but I lack the cultural perspective to be sure. I would desperately love your feedback and advice.
