advice, anyone?

I feel like my tags have gone wild and crazy. What's the best way to organize them? Do you think a fic list is helpful? I'd like my journal to be very reader friendly, so your input would be helpful.

I'm still waffling back and forth about splitting my stuff between a fic journal and a personal journal. Before I think I had many more fic posts but not so much anymore. Plus having a fic journal would make everything nice and neat...or is it just kind of pompous? I don't know. I'm probably just avoiding writing. *G*

Also what's bugging me is this SV ficlet I started and can't finish. I know what's supposed to happen, it's just--arrg! I can't make it happen. Gosh....

And guys. I have a confession to make. Those pics of me that I've posted, and those "face of evol" icons? That guy I claim is Mr. Roxy, and yes, even the pics of those beautiful young ladies--lies. All lies. I'm confessing all today. Not me. I'm not Roxy, I'm not Susan. My real name is Harold Fenstermacher. I'm 63 years old. I live in my mother's basement and read porn all day long, and yes, write it. Don't judge. Just send chocolate. Lots of it.

Fic lists are always nice. I love fic lists. I hate searching journals for ages and then find nothing.

The tags in my personal journal are a total mess and I keep them that way, because it's my personal journal, and I'm a mess and... it fits. *lol*
However, for my other journal/community - the fannish one, I use main categories such as art and fic and fandom, and subcategories to be more specific. Well, look here and the sidebar. Hmm... now that I look at them... still messy. *lol*

Just send chocolate. Lots of it.
What? No lipgloss? Sorry, I only send lipgloss. ;P

Well, Harold, I just re-organized my tags and have always maintained a fic list(s) so do you find my journal user-friendly? At least LJ did add a nice feature that lets you rename your tags, so it wasn't as awful as the last time where I had to bring up every post to fix them.

The thought of maintaining a fic journal? Yuck. That would mean I'd have to logout of my personal and into my fic journal to post and answer comments. I'll admit it, I'm too lazy when it comes to that, one of the reasons [livejournal.com profile] danceswithclex doesn't get updated more often.

Sorry, no chocolate. I just finished it. *urp*

Wouldn’t compiling a fic list be a big hassle? You’re very prolific, madam. The little stuff I have written, I have a general tag for : drabbles. That’s it and everything. Even things that aren’t drabbles it’s there.

But I’m the type who instead of hitting the “print on a single page” on a story link would rather cut and paste each and every page. If it’s too much like doing right, it’s not for me. Because I like to make things difficult so I may not be the best person to answer this.

I'm still waffling back and forth about splitting my stuff between a fic journal and a personal journal. Before I think I had many more fic posts but not so much anymore. In that case, I think a fic list would be better than a separate journal. This place is for your every side roxymissrose Mr. Fenstermacher.

Hm... I don't think it would be a problem if you wanted a fic journal. Make it a community and you won't have to log in and out to post--just restrict posting access to yourself. And I have to admit that I've never really thought that fic or art journals were pompous. It's just about how you want to divide up your journal.*shrugs*

As for tagging... er. I'm really not that organized.

Also. I feel betrayed by you Harold! I will not delete my journal and blame it all on you and your deceitful ways!

Or maybe blame it on you and your deceitful ways and /then/ delete my journal?

[identity profile] selinamoonfire.livejournal.com 2009-04-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The only reason I have a fic journal is because I wanted something separate. And I actually finish a project so rarely that I don't have to worry much about the fic master list or logging out and then logging in under another name.

I'll still be friends with you Harold. I dunno about the chocolate. I'm kind of hording it at the moment. Keeps me from going psycho on co workers and ex bfs. Maybe when I'm calmer I can send you a care package. ;)

I vote against having two journals. I haven't space to add multiples of one person to my flist as I'm already at the 500 friends limit, so I'd have to chose between one and the other and I can't remember which multiple journal goes with which other multiple journal. Too confusing - specially when you add in all the people who change names a lot. If you worry about who reads your stuff, just filter - much easier.

April Fool! And if by chance you *are* Harold? Harold, my man, you rock. As long as you keep cranking out the posts and the fic, I'll be happy and withhold judgment. ;) Just don't go blind down there in your mother's basement surrounded by all that porn. Don't lose your footing and pull stacks down on top of you either. You might be crashed by all the weight. Paper is *heavy* *g*

Harold, Bertha, Roxy, Susan - you are awesome. :)

I vote for a fic list - it's great for me cause I can never find stories again! heh

[identity profile] myownghost.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
harold, we hardly knew ye! nice to meetcha.

having more than one journal gets confusing. but if you made a writing lj, i'd friend it quick as quick.

You big hairy man you.

And yah, read my lips: no new journals. I like having all my Tanti RoxyHarold in one space. You'll drive my OCD nuts if you start splintering.

I promise chocolate if you promise to take me to X-Men!Ryan Reynolds.

(Check it out--I'm doing the adjective!person thing. I am SO LJ savvy)

[identity profile] carolinecrane.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
The reason I don't have a fic journal (and I really should) is because I'm way too lazy to keep up with any more logins. I already neglect my diet journal woefully only because I never feel like logging out and back in again, and then I comment with the wrong journal all the time, and it's just a big mess. Just some food for thought, Harold.

[identity profile] rosy5000.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Harold, as long as you stay as fun and keep providing fic (especially Clark/Lex/Whitney), we'll be just fine. ;)

Tags? What are those? lol I know I don't post much, but I only have a few things in memories and most of them are other peoples fics. I have never tagged a single thing. Keep thinking about it but haven't. :P

Heeeeeeee.
Dude.
Tags are *so easy*!!!

Tag like this. General SV or Smallville or whatever tag for smallville fic. Then the name of the fic itself. Tag all the story parts with *both*.

Do the same for SPN and anything else you write. General tag, then specific tag.

I tag stuff about me 'personal', i know, so clever!! You have stuff about your writing process and such, so i would make a 'writing' or whatever tag, and then, you know, whatever else floats your boat, 'squee' or 'rant' or 'omg, i love this guy!!' or whatever.

So, so easy!!

Just make sure all parts of your fic have the same tags and then your fic is uber, uber easy to find.

AT least, that's *my* system - do you think my tags are easy, or weird?
:)
*spins you*

Fic list! :)

I tag my fics by title and pairing and set up links to each major section in my sidebar.

I may not be the best one to ask because I have a LOT of tags, but I have a lot of fics, too! :)

Have you considered a delicious account? Basically that's all it is--a big tag management and link collection service.

Lots of people keep tagged collections of other people's fic on delicious, and the tagging capabilities far exceed LJ's, but all your stories could still be on LJ.

www.delicious.com

It's kind of cool if you're not already using it.

I love ficlists: it makes digging through old stuff easier. I personally like having the personal and the fic together.

Hiiii Harold! *waves* Hey mister, the whether is lovely and the cherry blossoms are beautifully blooming here! Do you have any plan to come out from your basement sometime soon? ;D

I'd love a fic list! 'Cause I'm certain there are lots of your SV fics I've missed, especially the ones written before 2006.

make a fic masterpost on top of this journal.
just put in the title of the fic, and add the respective tag, link to your masterpost from your userinfo, and voila, that is quick and dirty and you are all set up :D
