This was quite an ep--very fast paced and shocking, sprinkled with bits of brotherly goodness and some real H/C without the C. I like where this is going very much. I wish we'd started off the season this way--it makes more sense to me in terms of the show. I still don't understand what the point of that Sam/Amelia thing was--we always knew that Sam wanted normal, no matter what he said aloud. I think like Sam does, they've given their all and deserve some rest, let the next generation carry it (could be a storyline?). Even soldiers retire. (mind you not that i want that because if it happened i'd be clutching a bowl of popcorn and staring at a blank screen.)
As for normal lives and how they're not possible--bullshit. You can get out of the life, they've shown us it's a possibility. Sam lived safe for a year, that happened. And Dean, even though he wanted to bitch about Sam ignoring hunting, he lived safe for a year himself. *Sam* was the one who pulled him out of that life. Sure, it was souless Sam but he did bring an end to Dean's normal. Plus, I think deep, deep down, contrary to Sam's belief, Dean really doesn't want that kind of normal. He always seemed more resigned to the life he had with Lisa instead of content. I'm sure there were many, many parts of that life that he liked, a lot, but deep down, he's not a picket fence, BBQs in the backyard kind of guy. I don't think Dean could relax enough to enjoy the life all the way. Just my opinion.
Anyhoo, good ep. *Excellent* ep.

Rambling... again... but I do want to add: MEG! I love(d) her so much and that was so... fuck, man, you know? I also loved the unicorn stuff, how it was used as a metaphor for attaining the so-thought unattainable. That was, to me, a really subtle and nicely (and prettily) done piece of writing there. Then Sam and Dean and carrying and some of the worst classic rock ever (I've always hated that song, lol), but its lyrics said a whole helluva lot.
Overall: Yea! \o/

It hurt my heart that they killed Meg--she was one of the really brilliant bad guys they had. Miner took that role and ran with it. I thought she did a wonderful job.
It was an A+ ep for me! :)

The thing with Cas and Dean AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!! "I won't kill Dean" There was a tiny, tiny bit of comfort when Cas put his hand on Dean's face while he healed him.
I wonder what Meg will look like next time around?

Meg/Cas makes me smile and giggle and...kinda flinch at the same time. it's so wrong, but so adorable.
"I...am...the Pizza Man. Come...to bring you...a pizza..."

All I wanna know is WWRD with a room full of Deans? And I'm talking about in fic, of course. :)

I agree with you about Dean and normal. In my headcanon, if Dean wasn't raised as a hunter then I can see him as a military dude, a sergeant or some sort of military leader who would inspire men to follow him and lead the good fight. I can't imagine him just being like you say a BBQ in the backyard sort of guy. Definitely resignation more than actual happiness is what comes across in the 6-01 episode, though I think that was also largely because he was grieving.
I also wish that they'd stop pushing the Sam-wants-normal thing so hard. For one thing, we've already been told, and for the other, I think it makes Sam's desires a lot more simplistic than they actually are.

They gave Meg a great send off but I'm sad to see her go and wondering why they got rid of her. She's been an interesting character since day one.
And yeah, the bit of information that we got about Sam this ep wasn't exactly headline news. :)
