B-Day 29: SpNJ2BB rec!

I could watch a solid hour of Dean telling Cas, "We ganked those bitches once before; we can do it again." I swear, hottest Dean ever! The rewatch continues! The deleting thing isn't going so well. *shrugs*

And rewatch isn't the only thing that continues! BDay month, heck yeah! Today's installment brings another rec for one of my all-time fav writers, [livejournal.com profile] sonofabiscuit77, and her BB offering.

1978 by sonofabiscuit77
Pairings: Jared/Jensen
Rating: NC17
Word count: 34k
Warnings: British 1970's AU, expect characters' language and attitudes to reflect that time (homophobia, sexism, racism, class snobbery). Allusions to molestation and the old British boarding school practice of “fagging”. Jared is 17 and Jensen 18 in this fic, I've deliberately avoided using real-life members of their families.

Summary: England, 1978: a time of strikes, class warfare, power shortages and institutional homophobia. At an elite boarding school, scholarship student, Jensen Ackles, grocer's son and fly-half for the school's Rugby First XV, falls in love with fellow boarder, Jared Padalecki, stockbroker's son and aspiring artist. But the path of love never runs smooth, especially for two boys in 1970’s England with the world, and society, against them.

I expected this story to be amazing story and it was. The time and place feel so real, as do the people--and of course Jared and Jensen set so perfectly in it. They're so in character (the character I have for them in my head). The Js stories kind of mirrored each other in this fic in a very interesting way--heartbreaking, but very fitting. I warn you, once you start this story, you won't be able to stop.
(I've edited my comments, again--I kind of went real blabby on my comments this year but I was having such a good time reading! *G*)

On a side note, I like this little trend of not using actual RL family names. For me, it makes the fic more like a role that the Js are playing. I'm not especially bothered when folks use real names and sometimes it's the only way to go, it just makes it more fun for me when they don't. Oh yes, sorry, it's a totally shallow thing on my end.

Tune in for massive whining later on this evening. Bring raincoats and hankies...maybe tranquilizer darts. I know right? Can hardly wait! :D

This was a great story. So here's a little rec for you. Two stories that I liked more than I thought I would. No disrespect to the authors. I just wasn't familiar with them. "Redacted- Investigation Ongoing" by mia6363 and "courting Death" by afattribble.

I liked Redacted as well--but I haven't read Courting Death yet--I decided to save the Sam/Dean for after the J2. Ach, how my priorities have shifted! :)

I'm putting it at the top of my read list!

The tippy top of you your Sam/Dean list should be "Dust and Shadow" by portraitofafool. I loved it so much that I secretly married it and would like to have a litter of short stories with it.

Oh gosh, I know she's *SO* good, and I'm saving it for last. I'm gonna need to be able to read and reread bits, I'm sure.

Dang, you have excellent taste! :D

Also: I secretly married it and would like to have a litter of short stories with it.
