I could watch a solid hour of Dean telling Cas, "We ganked those bitches once before; we can do it again." I swear, hottest Dean ever! The rewatch continues! The deleting thing isn't going so well. *shrugs*

And rewatch isn't the only thing that continues! BDay month, heck yeah! Today's installment brings another rec for one of my all-time fav writers, [livejournal.com profile] sonofabiscuit77, and her BB offering.

1978 by sonofabiscuit77
Pairings: Jared/Jensen
Rating: NC17
Word count: 34k
Warnings: British 1970's AU, expect characters' language and attitudes to reflect that time (homophobia, sexism, racism, class snobbery). Allusions to molestation and the old British boarding school practice of “fagging”. Jared is 17 and Jensen 18 in this fic, I've deliberately avoided using real-life members of their families.

Summary: England, 1978: a time of strikes, class warfare, power shortages and institutional homophobia. At an elite boarding school, scholarship student, Jensen Ackles, grocer's son and fly-half for the school's Rugby First XV, falls in love with fellow boarder, Jared Padalecki, stockbroker's son and aspiring artist. But the path of love never runs smooth, especially for two boys in 1970’s England with the world, and society, against them.

I expected this story to be amazing story and it was. The time and place feel so real, as do the people--and of course Jared and Jensen set so perfectly in it. They're so in character (the character I have for them in my head). The Js stories kind of mirrored each other in this fic in a very interesting way--heartbreaking, but very fitting. I warn you, once you start this story, you won't be able to stop.
(I've edited my comments, again--I kind of went real blabby on my comments this year but I was having such a good time reading! *G*)

On a side note, I like this little trend of not using actual RL family names. For me, it makes the fic more like a role that the Js are playing. I'm not especially bothered when folks use real names and sometimes it's the only way to go, it just makes it more fun for me when they don't. Oh yes, sorry, it's a totally shallow thing on my end.

Tune in for massive whining later on this evening. Bring raincoats and hankies...maybe tranquilizer darts. I know right? Can hardly wait! :D

The Beat of Our Noisy Hearts by [livejournal.com profile] cleflink
Artist name: [livejournal.com profile] petite_madame
Pairing: Jared/Jensen
Rating: NC-17
Word count: 48,000
Warnings: Magic realism, graphic descriptions of medically impossible heart care, serial killers, sex,

Summary: In a world where heartbreak is a literal condition, it's Jared's job to sew, fill and patch the physical wounds left in people's hearts by lost loves, misunderstandings and betrayals. Jared's own love life is mostly at the pining like a fifteen year old girl stage, largely because Jensen doesn't date and Jared doesn't do one-night stands, but he's got good friends and a job he loves, so he figures that he can't complain too much.

I loved the whole idea of this fic—the wonderful, magical, heart mending idea. It wasn't that Jared could perform open heart surgery in a chair, in an office, it was that he could do that *and* give hearts-ease with colored thread and cogs and gears, bits of wood and metal. When you read about it, put yourself back into the magical mind sense you had as a kid, and you will know that it's possible, because it just makes *sense*—if you have a broken heart, then someone must know how to fix it, right?

Now take this wonderful magical science background and add a love story that will make your heart ache, featuring an earnest and too-caring Jared and a broken, emotionally stunted Jensen. *satisfied sigh* I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to spoil any of the story for you, but I think this is one of the very best of the best of 2013's BBs.
READ THIS!

And enjoy the flat out plain AMAZING art by [livejournal.com profile] petite_madame! Genius!

Becomes a Monster by [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl

Summary: Sam's “normal” life dissolves when his brother mysteriously returns from the dead. But when Dean came back, Benny the vampire wasn’t the only thing that came back with him. Now Sam is in a race against time to save his brother. This is one race that Sam refuses to lose.

Here's my(edited) comment to the story: What a fantastic spin on season eight--a season I loved, by the way, so this just makes everything better. I have an insane love of messed up Dean and protective Sam. You have a wonderful way with Sam, the way you write him makes me feel like I'm inside his head, looking out at Dean through his eyes and just really getting what it is that drives the both of them.

This story is clever and twisty and once you start reading it, you won;t be able to stop. [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl is one of my favorite authors, one of those writers that when you see her name, you jump on it because that's all you need.

The Colors of My Life
Author: [livejournal.com profile] tcs1121
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] sammycolt24
Pairing and Characters: Jared/Jensen, Aldis Hodge, Jim Beaver, Misha Collins, Mark Pellegrino, with a cameo by Beth Riesgraf
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: ~34,500 words
Warnings: Jensen has a permanent medical condition: Degenerative Myopia
Summary: At age twenty, "Blind Artist" Jensen Ackles became a successful, world renowned Abstract Impressionist painter by painting what he saw. However, fourteen years later, Jensen feared that what was left of his poor eyesight was coming to an end sooner rather than later and wanted his work to carry on after his colors faded to black. Jensen takes on an aspiring, talented young artist, Jared T. Padalecki, as his apprentice.

"It might be a bumpy ride, but I swear, it'll be worth it."

"I know what it looks like, but this is how I see it."

Jensen Ackles on his art, as told to Misha Collins,
Edition # 317, I Am Every Man magazine.

Friends, usually stories that center around art in some way kind of suck. There, I said it. If you know something about art, than you know most writers don’t get it right. But this story worked for me. The descriptions of Jensen's art was beautifully done. In my comments I said the author had very interesting things to say about loyalty, love, expectations and how we can be incredibly aware of our surroundings, our feelings, and still be blind to the people around us—when you read the story you'll see what I meant.

This story is a great case fic which are kind of rare of late. The characterization was wonderfully spot on--such broken, twisted boys, not ever quite complete until they're with each other. *sigh* There's never a certainty of what will happen, in the case or in their lives. A very good, very fast read. [livejournal.com profile] sowell has an excellent handle on the boys, the fic is heartbreaking without being an angstfest and I'm not telling you more than that. :)

omgosh, my friends, read this gorgeous, gorgeous story by [livejournal.com profile] rikyu, Together Like the Devil and Sin. You know Yer Mother is a sucker for a good historical piece, particularly stories set in these times and oh my, this is perfect! The most beautiful BB I've read this year! Such atmosphere, and the background, and there's just wonderful attention to details plus a really natural, heart-warming (and stuff *koff*) love story...read it, let me know how you loved it! :)
