I'm working on a story that I like a lot, and I'm trying to decide if I should post it as a WIP or a complete piece. I'm working on it at the speed of negative snail but I'm definitely working on it. What do you say, my friends? Post or not? It's a Sam/Dean domestic AU, chock full of angst and stuff because that is how I roll. Ya'll pretend like it's important and I'll pretend like I'm not needy as hell.
My other child has moved out and our nest is empty. BG and her little dog have left us. The dog's coming back but the kid claims she's not. I don't know--there are roaches in her apartment. We have this thing about roaches like other people have about snakes or serial killers. It's a phobia so bad that therapy would probably be helpful. Can anyone recommend solutions to controlling them? She's in the city in an old apartment building so yeah, odds are it's a losing battle. This whole moving out thing sucks so hard. There are good points but not many. I know she's got to spread her wings but...SNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFF. I miss her. :(
If only I could gather my little chicks and FORCE THEM TO LIVE WITH ME FOREVER!!!!
*koff* Kidding!!

Aw, empty house. I can't imagine it. *clings to Monstrous*
As for roaches - oh, gods. HAAAAAAAAAAAATE. This is the only thing i know to do to *help*, though it won't fix. Always have rubber stoppers in the sink drains - they can crawl up and down. Keep the trash as closed up as possible and take it *out* as often as possible. Leave NO food out, nothing at all. Wipe up all counters right away. Put stuff like cereal in rubber-maid type containers and make sure they seal.
Keep everything *clean*. Don't leave clothes or anything on the floor, they like to climb inside. Put shoes on a shoe tree. And short of putting a line of silicone around every baseboard and window, spray for the little bastards and don't push your furniture up against the wall.
Also, if she can stand it, find out what *kind* they are. Some are more horrifyingly difficult to kill than others.
*smooches you*

As for the roaches? I've always heard filling a lid (like a mayonnaise or soda pop lid) with boric acid and placing them in the corners of your rooms. ALWAYS AWAY FROM THE FUR BABY, though. Make sure the pup can't get anywhere near it, but it should make the roach problem disappear. Also, there are raid squares you can buy and place in the corners of the rooms, again away from the fur baby.
*Hugs you* about the empty nest.

RE: cockroaches I totally agree on the sealed garbage I had them when I was going to college and they're horrible they love paper don't leave newspapers looseleaf paper any kind of paper out they go for it like white on rice. I kept all my food in sealed containers or in the fridge I even kept the couple of plates and cups are used in a hanging basket midair because they'll crawl all over your dishes in the dark cupboard.
One thing I found sort of helpful is they hate salt and if you can get the cockroaches under control in your apartment sometimes what you do get his cockroaches coming in from other apartments so I bought a big bag of salt and I went along the baseboard of my entire apartment and across the front door of the apartment and Ran a really heavy line of salt almost like supernatural around all the moldings on the baseboard and they hate it and I would come home from class and they be dead cockroaches at my front door where some had tried to climb under the door through the salt and the salt got in their carapaces and they dried out! Blocking the sinks and the tub is also another good idea because that's the other place you find them is crawling up out of the sink. Cockroaches yuck!!!

I googled "natural roach killer borax"

Please note, however, this is not entirely safe around animals and children, who might not know that you shouldn't eat it. Save the Little Dogs! :)

I'm sorry your baby is all growed up. It sucks. The upside is that now you can roam around naked.

you don't know me from a hole in the wall, but I just had to jump in since I know what you mean about all those things!
I have a WIP that I'm really trying to hold off posting until it's completed, because I *hate* when I read WIPs that never get finished. And I know I only really write on the weekends. I really want it finished.
And two, my nest is almost empty, due to odd circumstances including divorce and my job, i now only have the 13 yo and home and she is very, very busy. I do love hanging out with my kids. I built them, damnit, I made sure they could talk about all kinds of interesting things, and have great senses of humor, and know random movies quotes and song lyrics. I didn't put all this hard work in to have somebody else reap the rewards!
I don't know how old you are, but yeah, other peeps with grown kids can be boring. I live in Stepford Land (literally - an expat community full of ladies who lunch and then put out a newsletter about it and the day trips they take to shopping malls) So, I hear you.
as for the roaches, that sucks. I was an apartment manager in LA for 9 years. When you spray one apartment, they just go to the next and then come back. Everyone's given good advice. Vacuum a lot, get the egg cases. The love dampness, so check under sinks and around the pipes for drips. I didn't know about the salt! See, they are little insect demons.
Keep writing!

We still do food-garbage in the freezer until we can take it out. DH has a "delicate" ::cough:: nose.
I was a mess when Son the Elder moved out. By the time Son the Younger did, we were actually pretty happy to see the back of him so we could explore couplehood again. But then they both started boomeranging on us, first one, then the other, then both at the same time, bringing breakup and job loss trauma with them. "I didn't take you to raise! Oh, wait."
StY is still at home. WE moved out. Heh.
Post the WIP, dearheart. We'll nag you to keep going, yes? (Plus, I wanna reeeeead it nownownow!)

Oooh, roaches. *full body shudder* Such a phobia of mine as well. I was about 12 when I found out my mom lied about the fact that they could fly! I couldn't sleep for 3 days. LOL I have two cats that make it their live goal to keep me pest free, bless their little tormenting hearts. Never found anything else that worked long term, sorry. I wish her luck though.
