blah, blah, bitch, bitch

You know how you come across a recipe for something you've eaten ever since you were a wee thing? Some dish that when you eat it nowadays, you're suddenly thrown way back when? So you're reading this--this *recipe* and you're all "WHA? THE ACTUAL HELL? What the *hell* is that a recipe for because it sure is not the dish we ate!" You know what I really hate? When folks do stuff like, I don't know--throw black-eye peas in a silver dish. Or healthy up those old time recipes and swear up and down it will taste just as good--even better. No hell no. Where's the fat? Where's the damn salt? Where's the damn TASTE????

I need to keep away from that damn Pinterst. But the SpN pins call me like sirens.

I'm really crabby right now because all we have is granola bars in the house. Some of us seem to think that's an actual exchange for cookies. But some of us are cute but insane. I really want a red velvet muffin right now.

See? This is me kind of writing.

I say to hell with "healthier" versions of good old recipes. Julia Child always scorned diet-type food. She swore by real butter, real lard, you know? I'm with Julia.

Me too! Real butter, some good fat, makes everything taste better! After all, it's not like we're sitting down with a tub of butter and a spoon every day. A treat should be a real treat!

Our local paper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, has a food section every Wednesday. Today, the cover story of that section is "Praise the Lard." :) It tells how to render pig fat into lard in your own kitchen and how awesome lard is. Then it has several lard-friendly recipes. Must be something in the air.

I gotta get me some pig fat!

Hokey smokes! I don't know--that sounds just a little too old school for me, lol!! Though I do love the title of the article, lol!

I remember back in the day, those cans of bacon grease sitting by the stove. How did we manage to grow up, lord!

I remember the bacon grease! lol! It was either in a coffee can or a mason jar. I learned how to make gravy using bacon grease :)

Right? I remember the coffee can--or the little tin can with the lid. Yeah, even when I was a kid, it grossed me out, lol!!

Viscous arguments in my house growing up as to what is welsh rarebit. My cousin swears what she cooks is it, but my mother says that what my cousin cooks is actually called shit on a shingle. Either way, both of their recipes are gross.

LOL! And when it all comes down to it, that's all that counts--is it edible? No? Then screw it!

I can't go there because spoilers. :( But I really do love the crafty things and the pictures of all the pretty people that aren't the boys in upcoming episodes. :)

I don't even understand that place and I'm spending way too much time there!

I agree food tastes better with a little or a lot of fat and salt. Healthy is a salad maybe don't try to pretend that a recipe "made over" as healthy will taste the same and definitely don't gussy up the simple fare on silver dishes! it seems a wee tad or muy pretentious to me! Nothing is wrong with black eyed peas in a bowl or straight from the pot! So where's the cheeseburger with fries ? the fried chicken, the pot roast and potatoes, the bacon lettuce tomato sandwich, or better yet the coconut cake with frosting or strawberry shortcake! Darn it now I gotta go find some "real food" !
