Now, the last time we heard about John, he was a lousy Dad
I have a big old thinky thing I might post all about that--I don't think it's a retcon at all. I think they're trying to put a spin on their lives, both the boys. John was a crap dad, but even crap dads have the occasional flash of goodness, y'know? my feelings about John, which have never been totally negative, certainly didn't change last night. But I got chills that Dean was telling a funny story in which it kind of sounded like he was sort of maybe roofied? Or was that just me?
I really liked it. Sam grabbing Dean's face and pleading broke my heart.
I know that John was never Dad of the year but I think the writers and more so the fans have really vilified him over the years. I liked hearing a nice memory.
I don't know what to say about the Claire story.I think they are trying to find ways of putting Castiel into the show without having to move him into the bunker for a big slumber party.

I think he was a sonofabitch, but I don't think he was as abusive as folks want to act. He loved both those boys but he really was kind of a crappy dad. He was a regular guy, with probably an average outlook on the world that was overlaid with the knowledge that life was scary and dangerous in some horrible ways. Between Vietnam and the YED, he was never going to be Ward Cleaver.
I wish they'd just plant the guy in the bunker and let it go. Keep him or dump him but stop breaking the show in two for him. I like Cas but his storyline is really getting on my nerves. I hope there's a point to all this that directly and logically ties in to the boys.

Dean's story was a little sinister - poor baby, all alone in NYC.
