So, darlinks, if I were to purchase a season of TV show DVD's which would you recommend, (besides SV)

Anything at all- I'm curious. I was considering Carnival, but I have no idea about it besides it's supposed to be good. This will be my Xmas present to myself--'cause I'm cute and so worth it! So giveme something good! *makes gimme hands*

Have you seen the Alias series?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
No--I've never seen it, I understand it was good, though.

It's very good, and S1 is a good place to start. It's a very detailed series, you really *do* need to pay attention to what's going on, it's not just mindless pretty like SV.

Oooo! Cool! I will put that on my list! Thank you!

Are the extra goodies important to you? Because I thought the L-Word had a great premiere season, especially after the first 1/3 of it. They took a few episodes to find their feet. The special features aren't amazing, though.

The acting is fantastic and the storylines are interesting. Good writing, good continuity, backstory etc. I didn't like one girl's characterization, but after a while, you sort of understand why she's all over the place, even if you don't grow to like her. There's something for everyone, really.

And yeah, I think Carnivale is supposed to be very good.

Ah! I wondered about the L-Word too, the subject is very interesting. Special features don't mean zip to me-- nice but not required, *grin* Tank yew Baby Girl Two!

Arrested Development!!! They're pretty cheap, and it's *such* a fantastic show. No one who's seen it, that I know, hasn't liked it.

I love that show, and Jason Bateman! He's a freak, and I like that in a person!

Now for something completely different: Season 1 of the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Awwwwww! Mary Tyler Moore! I loved that show! I was a wee Roxy when that was on! *stares into the distance in nostalgic mood*

Six Feet Under. Quarky, with fantastic actors and writting. The plot lines are awesome and Alan Ball (the creator) is a freaking genius. The only problem is that the sets are kind of expensive and it takes foreva' eva' for them to put out the seasons. We're up to two and they're about to start filming the fifth and final season.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'll put it on my list! (ooo- plus that guy that played Casey on Sports Night is in it too I think...hmmm.)

[identity profile] strangefancy.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, yeah. Peter Krause.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ah! my love is varied and not very picky. (or is that faithful?)

Except of course for my total devotion to Anderson Cooper.(psst-- Peter, let me just slip you the digits..)

If you feel like adding to your sci-fi rewatching capability, then the DVD's of the series Andromeda is what you should get. I am seriously thinking of getting them as a Santa gift for my husband (and me!).

As a quick intro, I found you following through the links where droid (http://www.livejournal.com/users/droid) added both of us as friends to his journal.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ah-ha-- Andromeda. Andromeda is a sometimes taste for me-- I watch it on and off. I much prefer DS9 or ST:TNG or the Star Gate shows...I confess I even watch Mutant X from time to time...but that's more about the pretty then the SF.*hangs head in shame* I'll add it to my list though, and thanks so much for dropping in to tell me about it. Always a pleasure to meet new folks!

[identity profile] meanoldmom.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't get to watch Star Gate anymore. My husband decided he didn't like it after a couple of seasons.

I really wish that DS9 had continued. The mini-series to wrap up all the loose ends was nice, but still left a craving for more.

Have you watched any episodes of the new Star Trek: Enterprise show?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean about DS9. I've started watching the reruns recently and am amazed all over again, what a fantastic show that was, chock full of great actors!

As for Enteprise--I really really wanted to love it and I'm a great big Scott Bakula fan(Quantum Leap) but I find it hard to even like it. I watch it sometime with Mr. Roxy but just to be nice. *g*

I'm pretty partial to Alias and Buffy, myself.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2004-12-08 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, Alias has been recced and Buffy, oh please, girl! I have them all! *G*
