"Lucy"

Listen, I was a military dependent(*not* an army brat) for 18 years--I was friends with officer's kids, and no one--*no* one ever referred to their pop by their rank. Ever. EVER.
Granted, it was during the Vietnam era and stuff was different then but still--"THe General." God-- I just wanted to smack the crap out of her every time she said that. I liked everything else though, logic bombs and all. Silly episode yes, but just too pretty to be mad at.

I broke up with Smallville after S4, Ep 1. There were a couple of reasons. A) It wasn't possible for Lex to get any sexier than in that white-linen-suit-taking-off, nipple-clamping, bead-of-sweat-trailing scene before which all other sexiness in the world must bow down.

And B) I hate the death of Clex.

Lois and her dad, the exploits of Super!Lana, naked teen witches, cute dogs, and all the other shark-jumping tactics have only served to drive me farther away. I watched the episode where Chloe Finds Out, and of course I watched the one where Lex Has Sex and Is Therefore Evol, but otherwise? We've broken up.

I'm still sad. I miss my Smallville.

Oof--that was pretty hot. And since then, they've been very miserly in the showing of the Lex.

For me, it's different, having come to the show from fic. I fell in love with the characters before I ever saw them. What they're doing now with the show is strange to say the least. It's as if they have no guidance, and they're flailing around crazily. I think that everyone involved has thrown their hands up in the air and said, " screw it. I'm getting a paycheck and that's all I need to know."

I get the same impression--that SV is just flailing its way to the end of S5 and the Holy Grail of syndication. Certainly Mikey R. has made it explicit by moving back to LA and asking that his scenes be limited to a couple days of shooting. And thus are we deprived of the Best Thing About Smallville.

SV is one of those unusual shows--like Voyager--whose fanfic is better than the show itself, so I'm not surprised you came into the fold that way. I think the longing for what "could shoulda woulda" been in the hands of greater producers has driven the creation of some really great fiction. Not to mention smut.

Actually...

I went out with a guy who had a father that was a colonel, and he and his siblings always referred to him as 'The Colonel'. Not to his face, of course! *g*

You're kidding! Really? Hah! Never say never, I guess!

Military child as well

My father started out as an NCO and ended up as a Major. When he acheived his highest rank, we always referred to him as Major Dad -- not because of the rank, but because of an Erma Bombeck piece describing a family trip which was hilarious and the father in it (known as Major Dad) fit my father to a T.

So it does happen. Not often, but it does happen.

Hah! Okay, generalizations are bad! I was talking about this to a friend of mind and she had the same reaction I did, but I wonder could it have been the times?
And now, I want to know everything about that story 'cause it sounds like it must be very good! :)

I could be totally, totally wrong, but I'm thinking it might be comic book canon that Lois called her dad that? I could soooooo be wrong, though. Seriously.

Ah, comic book canon--could be, it's been an age since I've read Supes, I'm just now getting back into comics.

Say, you really don't have to be so nice on calling me on my bone-headedness--I'm pretty used to being wrong! *grin* but thanks for the heads up! *hug*

My Dad was in the Navy but mostly I just refered to him as "that asshole" but that may just be me

See! That's what we oldtimers mostly called our pops back then!
