Ah-hem.
Time zones. Time… Greenwich Mean Time, Eastern Standard Time, Pacific Daylight Time—why, Mizz Rose, are we talking time, you ask. I’ll tell you children. The time that rules the Casa Rose? CPT*. Yes…CPT. Which means that your cards, beloveds, are coming late. They will be New Years cards—and yet—they will appear to be Christmas cards! I know it! Amazing, is it not!

*sigh* I had every intention of being on time for once. Alas, I am the enormous suck.
When I come back, I’ll list all the folks who were kind enough to send me a card. On time. Unlike myself.

*For those of you under the age of forty—CPT=Colored People Time. Un-PC? Well, yeah but it’s my damn journal.

Have you ever heard of JST? That's Jewish Standard Time, which applies particularly to functions like weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc.

For years my mother didn't send Christmas cards, she sent Twelfth Night cards. That's what you're doing! Twelfth Night, yeah!

JST? haahaa! Cool!
YaY! Twelfth Night, my new excuse! Happy Holidays, my dear.

If it makes you feel any better, I knew when the lst posting dates from here were, but I watched them float by because it was raining and I didnt want to get wet on the way to the post office.

My cards will also be arriving some time next year o_O.

I also had no idea what CPT was. You learn something new everyday. :D

Fascinating, no? *grin*

CPT is the only time as far as I'm concerned.

True that--I am a woman of lovely color! *grin*

That's ok. Because. I'm under White Trash Time (WTT), and thus your New Year's card will also appear to be a Christmas card. :P

Yay! (?) Anthropology!

[personal profile] beet 2005-12-25 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya know... we anthropologists always talk about the "OTU" - that would be the One True Universal, kind of the disciplinary version of the OTP.

People are always talking about "the incest taboo" - in every culture there is a rule about who is socially acceptable to have sex with.. blah, blah, blah.

Well, I'm pretty sure there's a holiday card universal as well. The Mayans and the people of the Indian subcontinent all believe in cyclical time. I'm pretty sure that has to do with the fact that if you miss sending out Nav Ratri or Jaguar Moon cards this go 'round, there's always a chance to make it up in a few lifetimes. Likewise, I'm pretty sure Einstein took up the whole time-space subject when he was too busy playing with his hair to get his Chanukah cards out on time one year.

So, you see... there may be magical Christmas themed New Year's cards and CPT, but there is always cross-cultural sharing!

Um. It's a quiet morning here. That's my excuse and I'm standing sitting by it!

Merry Christmas!
*hugs*

Oooooooo! See, LJ is so educational and informative. It's totally not ever a waste of time like some folks say! Huzzah!

I'm *cough* going with Twelth Night. Yes. Sounds good. Besides, they're called Christmas cards because you write them on Christmas. Silly, silly people. This should be obvious.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2005-12-26 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! That is the fact that everyone seems to miss--you write them *on* Christmas--otherwise they'd be Friday cards, or Wednesday cards...you get my drift....
