I was concerned about that, LOTR, and the Sword of Shannara. I haven't read any of them, but I know the latter two are fantasy, and vampires aren't, well, science fiction. Is HP really sci-fi, either?

(and in case you're curious, Roxy, I've only read On the Beach, Farenheit 451, and Hitchhiker's Guide, the first two for school and the last because my friend thrust it into my hands and ordered me to read it.)

Yeah, people don't seem to make the distinction they once did. When I was an SF snob, it made a lot of difference--but back in those days, I was the worst kind of fangirl-comicgeek-moviefreak-snobbitch.

But fantasy and sci-fi are two completely different things- one often takes place in the past, one in the future. Makes no sense to me.

I think it's stuff like Star Wars, which to me is fantasy with SF trappings, that helped to confuse the two, plus lazy chain bookstores.

Mmm, all the sci-fi a "long long time ago."

It's just bizarre to me to blend them. My dad has books of both kinds scattered around our house, so I've just always kept them separate in my head (and associated with him, which may be why I don't really read much of either).

It would be kinda cool to see dragons versus robots, though.

*shrugs* There's a bunch that are fantasy. These day's it's all on the same shelves. I gave up being annoyed by it years ago. I vent my spleen elsewhere now.

See, the book store I go to is pretty good. I'd get angry if they had Sci-Fi mixed up with fantasy because I hate Sci-Fi and love fantasy. ...I'd have to vent my spleen if they put them all together. *g*

I've read all of them except 43. Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson. I own most of them and I had to buy a second copy of 'Dune' because I read it to pieces.

The book buying dropped off a few years back because I wasn't finding anything fresh enough to enjoy and then slash appeared in my life!

I lost the desire to read non-stop the harder it got for me to read, what the the advancig old age and all--and then I found out how easy it was to read from the screen...and porn of course.
