Flash Gorden

weeeeeell, that was equal parts stupid and awwwww-some. WhitFlash was adorable the whole time, omg, I just wanted to scoop him up with a spoon--the show was totally stooopit, but good-natured-ly so, I think it might be kind of fun if they let Eric keep on with the aw-shucks, this is just for fun--and a paycheck attitude he's got going now....

'm with ya, babe, ratcheer witya.

Dude, I totally loved this!! It was definitely a SciFi show!!

ya mean hot and cheesy?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'll be back next week for sure--I thought Eric was too cute! Love your icon!

Re: ya mean hot and cheesy?

[identity profile] cinderella81.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm TOTALLY coming back next week!!!! I made this icon just today actually!

[identity profile] dancinbutterfly.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
for the record, did you watch Farscape? There was once a time when Scifi Channel didnt have to = cheese. *misses Rockne*

[identity profile] cinderella81.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I saw bits and pieces of it ... It was pretty good.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think their SF series are *all* pretty good, SG-1, SGA, BSG,Eureka--it's actually their movies that are almost all of them bad--so bad.

and Farscape was pretty darn good.

[identity profile] bittermint.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care if it's dumb -- I'm going to watch it anyway. I've missed seeing EJ onscreen.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
oh, me too--it was a real pleasure! The boy looks terrific!

[identity profile] bittermint.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that I've seen it, I have to admit I enjoyed it. The plot was dumbdumbDUMB and the whole thing looked like it was slapped together on the cheap, but EJ was adorable, and he was why I was watching.

Although I had to snicker -- pretty much all the outdoor scenes looked like they were filmed at old SV locations.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I may not ever admit to watching it again but hey--gotta support the SV alums!

[identity profile] rosy5000.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
It's totally your fault I watched this.

Thank you. :D

It wouldn't be Flash Gordon if it was serious and sensible. Plus... we got to see Eric shirtless! ;)

I'll be watching this for sure. :D

fault? me?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin*

Shirtless ia a ginormous plus--and the traditional torture scene--can't go wrong!

[identity profile] capnzebbie.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
So much fun! I was so happy to hear "Flash! Ah-ah!" at the end. It made me grin.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no doubt, but it was Eric who made it fun--and that hunter at the end--she cracked me up too. They look promising.
I didn't know he could be funny!
ext_21868: (misunderstood)

[identity profile] capnzebbie.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! In SV, at first he was the typical possessive-boyfriend-jock-jerk-obstacle-to-the-hero-and-heroine-getting-together. Then he became just incredibly earnest and semi-heroic to make up for the jerkiness. It's great to see him in this role, and I'm glad they're keeping it a little tongue in cheek.

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
It was REALLY dumb... but I might give it a chance next week anyway. The second half was less dumb, and EJ did pretty well throughout. Gina Holden (Dale)... wow. She did SO much better in Blood Ties. SO MUCH BETTER. Oh, guys. Well, good luck, kiddos. *gives them hugs*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the feeling he realized there was no way to play Flash Gordon seriously--that bit in the kitchen where he deflected death rays with a skillet? tell me that wasn't comedy gold! *G* So yeah, dumb, but cute!

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that kitchen scene may have been the best one in the whole pilot.

WHITNEY!

[identity profile] astrea9562.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
As Flash Gordon? Of course I'm watching!! (West coast time, doncha know) Staying awake is hard, but the show is cute. Eric is cuter, thank goodness.

*snugglesyoutobits!!*

:D

Re: WHITNEY!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles*

Isn't he CUUUTE? I have my fingers crossed the cute factor stays in the show--they can't compete with Sci-Fi's other series otherwise...ah, Whit Flash!

[identity profile] hyperfocused.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
All I can say it, it's a good thing Whitney Eric is so pretty.

I swear we can play a "spot the SciFi cliche" drinkng game with the show. We opened a door that should never have been opened...

Then again, it's not like the original (or even the 1980 remake) was high art.

(deleted and reposting because I effed up the tags)

there are things man was not meant to know...

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He is so fine! And the show is a cliche box, but I think if they keep the tone light, and yes, think of it as a drinking game, it should be fun!

[identity profile] dancinbutterfly.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it was fun. I mean, for goodness sakes, its not Doctor Who. Even at its most cheesy, Doctor Who was a brilliant concept. Flash Gordon was....Flash Gordon. At least this Ming is a bit more omnimous. You see the original? OMGFUMANCHU! Eric was adorable though. It was nice to see him on TV again.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think everyone is pretty much agreed--Eric was some pretty and the show was oy-stooopit. But it made me giggle in spots when I wasn't drooling so--yay! Better than most network TV!

And yes--I kept waiting for Fu Manchu to appear. *G* His evil minion was a load of laughs!

[identity profile] ex-marcasit.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Flash was adorable the whole time, omg, I just wanted to scoop him up with a spoon

Totally! And the show is watchable, not great, but not the worst I've seen. Although the mom's too young and those scrambled eggs only took 5 seconds to cook! :D

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
those scrambled eggs only took 5 seconds to cook!

OMG! It wasn't just me? I'm all "what the hell is she making? Where's the spices? She just threw those yolks in the pan with nothing! Look, Flash is all like 'ew, Mom, you can't cook!'"

Mr. Roxy was less than amused with my egg commentary. *G*

[identity profile] herohunter.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I didn't like the show. Funny, cause I liked HIM in the show, but Ming is just too average looking and Dale, OMG, UGLY!!! The chick hat rescued them? Yeah, she was Dale material. I can't handle ugly/bad actor female lead roles, unfortunately. I had to turn it off after the 1st hour. :(
I was kinda hoping I would like it, though, and he did a good job.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree completely about Ming, he was kind of insurance salesmany, and not so much evil dictator. DAle, well...I'm going ot give her a chance--though I must say I liked the bounty hunter or whatever at the end better. Dale was just okay.

And you have to admit that Whit Eric looked like sex on a plate!

[identity profile] tragicllyhip.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe i haven't seen a lot of sci fi shows, but I was a little shocked at how bad it was, lol, and did they have like NO budget?? Maybe I'm spoiled by SV special effects, but damn...and Eric is looking a bit old, isn't he younger than Tom?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was completely bad, but I think it was made to be a little corny--after all, Flash Gordon? No one takes Flash seriously! Actually, Sci-Fi's series are all very well done, and the special effects are excellent in all of them--but their original movies--? *so* very very bad!!!

Eric does look older,(and fines as all get out to me) but Thomas is a special case, he's supernaturally pretty, that boy!

[identity profile] tragicllyhip.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, ok, I don;t know much about Flash Gordon except a vague memory of some god-awful movie from like 1980 or so, but were the comics that bad too? What is he exactly and why does he have no powers? I ended up watching it because 'What not to Wear' was a repeat and didn't catch the last hour, but wow, I was a little embarassed for all involved, maybe they gave them more money after the pilot was picked up:) But good for Eric, working is always a good thing

And yes, Thomas...not fair to compare anyone to him,my bad:D

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Flash Gorden was *always* awful--I remember the comic strip being bad too, that's probably unfair, I think they were first published in the 30's? Not sure about that...I am sure poor Eric would rather be doing something else, lol! Because this show is purest cheese.

And yes, Thomas...not fair to compare anyone to him,my bad:D

OMG, yes! There's Thomas over here, and the rest of the world across this enormous divide over there--which is not to say that there aren't hotties all over, goodness...just...you know.

LOL!

[identity profile] lapetite-kiki.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to see Eric, I hope it will pass here!
