Legion and The Batman

Okay, I confess I actually really liked the new version of Superman on the Legion of Superheroes. It's a very interesting take on the character--he feels like my kind of Superman. :). Poor little Brainiac...so in love and so heart-broken. *sigh*

The Batman continues to veer off from the original premise of the show, as far as I'm concerned. I would have liked to see this progression of a young Batman figuring out the ropes a little slower but I think I'm in the minority. And realistically, I guess he has been around long enough now to be in charge of his little Bat family. By the way--I hate that fucking little Robin. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Teen Titan Robin but this little wiseacre is just not--funny. I like Batgirl much better than I like Robin. I did like Luthor ("Luuu-tor") on the show--isn't it funny how each new version of Lex gets slimmer and slimmer?

The *good* Robin

I am in your camp when it comes to Robin. He's just...not damaged or intense enough to be my Robin. I loved the Legion and The Batman this morning, but I really hate the whole 'To Be Continued' routine with season premiers. That really boils my grits.

You are so right about Lex. I think the artists are getting on board and realizing MR is one badass, sex--kitten, protrayl of Luthor.

Right? And just because it's a kid's cartoon (suuuure) doesn't mean that you can't get that quality--look at Teen TitansRobin--oy, issues....
And I hear you on the continued bit--don't make me scream that early in the day, you know what I mean?

I saw someone on a board say that they thought the Superman from the 41st Century looked liked TW while the original Superman looks more like Brandon Routh and I was amused to see that they were right to a degree. What do you think?

Ha! I just left a commment at your LJ!

I don't know--what do you think? I think they both look like TW, the young skinny one and the grown sexy one!

I think it might be because of the eye color. Since they went through the work of getting Brandon colored contacts and doing CG work to make them blue in Superman Returns while they just went with Tom's green on the show.

Are you telling me that I missed a lovesick Brainiac and a slim-and-sexy Lex Luthor when I slept through Legion of Superheroes and The Batman this morning? *howls in protest* Were they both 'to be continued'? I'll have to set my alarm clock for next Saturday....

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
They're both continued next week, so be sure to watch and see if Brainiac's love is returned! Poor little thing, he was missing Superman so much!

Between the Legion and Doomsday, it really is Superman clone week, isn't it? *g* I didn't mind the future Superman, even though I went into it not being sure, and I can't wait till he meets the original.

I'm an old school Legion fan, so I'm all about the Lightning Lad. ;)

Ah, I think I remember Lightning Lad was the cool one back in the day. I do remember I'd trade more than one comic for a Legion story--like one Batman was worth two Sgt. Rocks, kind of thing. Most of the DC comics from back in the day are a faint memory, because I lost all those comics in a terrible punishment. *still brings tears to my eyes over forty years later....*

"To Be Continued" are the most hated words in TV.

I love the "adult" look of Season 2 Legion. There were bits of old canon that showed up linking it to the comics. Superman X is an adult, not just a boy barely out of his teens. He comes from a bleaker time. No Norman Rockwell childhood. The edgier look is good. I love the longer hair. And the green eyes are from the krytonite that's laced into his DNA.

I missed Alfred on Batman, but the inclusion of Lucius Fox was good. Robin is too much like the 60's TV series Robin. As much as Robin is supposed to be a brightness that keeps Batman from descending completely into Darkness, Robin does need more of an edge to be more than comic relief.

omgod! What happened to Alfred? I missed the beginning of the Batman--did they take Alfred away?
Robin is too much like the 60's TV series Robin
Yes, yes! It's very annoying. Robin should have a sense of humor, but it needs to be drier than this version's. Robin isn't the average little boy, not by a long shot.

you know, I tend to think of TV Robins as Tim, since fanfic has trained me to think of Dick as totally screwed up.

I really liked that sweet young Superman, but now I'm very willing to give this edgy guy a shot. :)

Alfred just wasn't in the episode. They didn't go to the Batcave either, just to the tech center under the Wayne Enterprise building.

AAaaaaaiiieee! your icon is *SO* cool!
Thank goodness they didn't hurt my Alfred--I like this version best of all.

"The Batman continues to veer off from the original premise of the show, as far as I'm concerned. I would have liked to see this progression of a young Batman figuring out the ropes a little slower"

That's exactly how I feel!!!!!!! I really, really liked the show the way it was, before Batgirl and Robin. I liked Bruce and Alfred figuring everything out.

Not that I don't like the Justice League, but I guess right now I just don't give a damn about them. The show is "The Batman" not "Batman and the Justice League." I wasn't even a religious watcher of the Justice League when it was on, and I don't want those other steroid cases impinging on my show. Yeah, the ep with Supes was fun, but that's all I want to see. They don't need everyone else.

Though we do differ on our view of the side kicks- I hate Batgirl but like Robin. Then again, I'm not sure if I like Robin so much just because he's Robin or because I hate Batgirl that much and he's less irritating by comparison. I also don't watch Teen Titans Go, so I don't have that comparison going on. Either way the boy needs to eat something. Too skinny.

I'm glad I'm not alone it this! I also don't want the show to be a revolving door of Superheroes. This character was so very interesting, and now they're watering him down.

Oh, and when I say that I like Batgirl better, it's just the choice between stepping in poo and stepping glass--I'd rather step in poo. :)

Yeah, he's got some odd American take on anime going on there....
