I'm watching Stand By Me and thinking that young River Phoenix looks more like young Dean Winchester than a young Jensen Ackles does. He just has a knows too much look to his face--to me, young Jensen looks pretty much vacant. What do you think?
right? I couldn't find young enough pics of Jensen to compare but you can still see what I mean. Someone(i'm embarrassed to say that i don't remember who) made art using a young Elijah Wood as little Dean, and that actually worked too.
Oh, yeah, I can see that, too. Did you ever see 'The War?' Perfect for Elijah Wood as Dean. Just totally, too worldly and that whole loss of innocence vibe in his performance in that film. Plus, it used 'Gimme Shelter' by the Stones at one point, so of course I love it! *g*
O.o That's scary in that he does... and you know what else is scary? I could not get to your LJ! I freaked! Five whole minutes. What the heck! Goodness. I want to call them up and tell them never to do that again.
What, they look like two different boys. And he doesn't look like a young Jensen. In the black and white pick the kid looks angry, and in the color pics you can't see his eyes because of shadows. And I figured since you were comparing the boys, you'd have pics of two different boys...
Seeing "Stand By Me" in the cinema was one of those indelible movie-going experiences. I'd seen a trailer for it and was pretty sure it was based on the brilliant Stephen King story "The Body," and though the studio (probably very wisely) downplayed the movie's Stephen King aspect, I knew what non-horror greatness King was capable of.
So here were these boys, and all of them were good, but that one boy--the beautiful, wise one--was the stuff legends are made of, and it was obvious even then that he was superstar material. It was exactly that knows-too-much look that you mention.
He's one of those gone-way-too-soon stars I still find very haunting.
Absolutely--he was so young, and he really projected that too old for his age feeling. Like you say, a wise soul. He haunts you for long after the movie is over.

Definitely. Especially in the first photo, I think.

And YEAH, I can definitely see that! That world wise face for someone so young.
Poor River Phoenix. :( He was so talented (and beautiful).

say, is it just me or is the kid who's young Dean now kind of scary looking?

Maybe it's just you? But it might not be. I give a certain percentage of leeway for "Wow, that was the most awkward growth spurt ever". =D

God knows I can google for kid pics if I feel the urge.

I think sheer terror of the twink shoots made young!JA look a bit gone.
I don't blame him.
Yeah, this character looks like a young Dean, for sure. Nice.
*but the little kid that played young!Dean was good, too...*
That movie is so damn sad.
