(no subject)

one of my favorite songs is 'Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered'. David Bowie used it as the intro to his album Diamond Dogs, and when my mom heard it, she told me about the song and sang it to me. I remember that like it happened yesterday. Every time I hear it I think of her.

My mother used to sing me this one all the time. Oh crap, now it's in my head. Grrrr.

wow, that's practically a brainworm that one!

...I sing out danger! I sing out warning!

Make it stop.

Um..Um...the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round....

i didn't know bowie covered that! it's a great old song. i listen to a lot of romantic stuff from the 30s-50s, probably because it feels like home to me -- mom used to listen to a local radio station that played a hodge-podge of old music. no doubt they had it all on 45s!

no, he didn't cover it, he sampled it. He just used a small bit for the intro, but it's so powerful that it really stood out.

Me, I did that thing kids do--go through a nostalgic phase when "oh, such and such a time was so much cooler than now..." I think my folks were startled, but pleased. ;)

oh, i see. i somehow missed the boat on bowie. the only song of his i ever really went for was "let's dance." (it turned up in one of my stories, even. *g*)

I'm off to look up the Bowie version of that song. I had no idea. Sinatra was good and Streisand, not bad but you can't beat Ella!!!

Oh goodness, Bowie didn't record the whole song, he just sampled it! And yeah, Ella's is the best--hands down! *G*

Every time I hear it I think of her.

It's so special when parents give us those sides of themselves in those moments. I know I will always keep those little things about my mom in my heart.

You will, you will. No matter how much time goes by, those moments stay in your heart, and when something triggers them, a smell, a song, even a taste, it's like getting a wonderful gift from the past.

What a lovely story.

When I was growing up, we had a piano and some books of Broadway tunes. "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" was one of the ones I learned, and loved to sing.

"I'm wild again, beguiled again, a simpering, whimpering child again..."

A few weeks ago I'd have said they don't write songs like that anymore. Then along came Dr. Horrible...

Dr. Horrible...I have to see what this is all about!

Oh, you do! You do!

The freebie showings have gone away, but each of the three acts is a couple of bucks on iTunes, and well worth the outlay if you're already iTunes ready.

If not, ask around.

I fell in love with that song when Rod Stewart did it. I think I've only heard it by Rod and Ella, though. May have to check out Bowie's.

*hugs*

He doesn't cover it, he just sampled it on an album long ago!

But it really is a wonderful song!
