SpN, I mean the ep known as Wishful Thinking

Am I weird that I didn't think the teddy bear was all that funny? I mean, it was at first but then it just got...creepy, and awful, and I was horrified when it tried to blow it's brains out and couldn't. I didn't laugh at that point. And that horrible love match, and the little girl's parents LEFT HER. *ALONE*.

I think I over thought that epsiode.

HOW CAN YOU SAY SPOILERY, SORT OF WITH NO EXPLANATION?!!!!

*not reading not reading not reading*

Dean? Does not approve.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
but you weren't supposed to click if you haven't seen the ep!!

Besides I changed it now.

So. Did you see the ep?

It says 'spoilery, for sure!'

Sam doesn't approve, either!

So, you're saying I should say what episode it's spoilery for? Okay, I admit I'm a little slow on the uptake...

*tries to act like I meant it that way...blushgrimace*

Oooch, Sammy looks kinda pissed...*G*

I agree with you. I thought the episode was very dark despite its attempt not to be. The teddy bear was so depressed....Made me depressed. LOL.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
The teddy was terrible! It made me depressed too!

[identity profile] selinamoonfire.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
It was very dark. I think what I enjoyed about it was Sam and Dean's reactions to everything that was going on. I laughed through most of the episode, but not because of what was going on, but because of the looks on their faces. The boys looking clueless and totally out of their element made me grin.

The teddy was totally disturbing. The parents in Bali...the wishing well could have made them forget about the girl. For all we know, it zapped them to Bali without any sort of warning.

The love match...well, it was kind of what I expected. If you wished for someone to love you like that, it's what would happen if it was a bad wishing well. I figured the girl would go after the guy, but it made sense that she'd go after Sam instead. I'm just surprised she didn't go after Dean too.

Then Dean at the end. *sniffles* DEAAAAANNN!!!!!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
ooooh, okay! I get it now! I told you I was overthinking that episode! I feel better about the girl now...*g*

Yeah, I loved the boys though--their reactions were priceless!

[identity profile] selinamoonfire.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
LOL I was really disappointed that when they found the Teddy print, Dean didn't make some smart ass Sasquatch comment to Sam. I kept expecting it and it never came! Grrr!
beet: (SPN- Dean is beautiful)

[personal profile] beet 2008-11-09 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you. It was a very, very dark comedy.
I thought the teddy bear was funny initially, then it was fantastically absurd. I "got" the humor, but it wasn't a laugh-out-loud kind of humor.

I also couldn't snap back between hearing Sam talk about how everyone should be miserable because "that's life" and the humor. I actually like that Supernatural is trying to make its humor more complicated, though. It doesn't always work for me, but I like that they push things and experiment.

On the other hand, i do agree with the other commenters who have said that the "love relationship" was really sickening and didn't get the attention it deserved. It was really all about Ted Raimi and how it wasn't working for him, not at all about the woman. :/

In happier news, I just posted a Crusoe picspam of very pretty boys in my journal. Enjoy and jooooin me in Crusoe! *waves hands magically*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
what worked for me, worked wonderfully, but what didn't made me feel unhappy. The boys were great in all of it. They worked their lines hard!

ah...you know I love you like crazy, right? But Crusoe...I tried, I did but it's not meant to be. *sheepish grin*

LOL! My love for you is not contingent on liking the same fandoms. (Thank God!) But I am sad. Did you watch the second episode? Because it sucked. Sucked so hard.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
It might have been, it wasn't the first epsiode, I know that, because the squeeing made me tune in.

[personal profile] beet 2008-11-09 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
If it involved an enormous stone water-way with unnecessary secret mechanical doors, ghost dogs, Indiana Jones-type adventures, a skull in a box, and almost zero gay, it was definitely the horrid second episode.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
wow, just my luck! Maybe I'll give it another shot. I did with SV and SpN and that worked out pretty good for me. ;)

Heh. Or you can just enjoy the eye candy I'm peddling in it's shallowest form.

It took me two seasons to get int SPN, too. But with the incest, I feel like there was a good reason.

Speaking of... I've become embarrassingly NOT bothered by the incest in fanfic. Unless it gets a little fetishized, then yuck. Still working up the nerve to manip for it, though. Maybe.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 05:11 am (UTC)(link)

Yeah, as long as it's fic, I'm pretty good, but a lot of folks just...make me wonder. Or squint. Or recoil from my screen like it's a poisonous snake.

I'm very much hoping that you will manip for SpN and it totally doesn't have to involve the boys naked with each other at all.

But where's the fun in that??!
Seriously, I've been doing these stargate challenges and have been playing with new styles, so maybe I will do non-smexing manips!

I actually thought that in a certain way the Teddy Bear's existential crisis was a pretty profound statement of the human condition. What if God turned out to be an 8-year-old girl who only created us for tea parties? I might attempt suicide, too. To me the funny part of the suicide was the stuffing--and that was more the visual element.

The girl's parents didn't intentionally leave her alone, you know. It's not like they knew they'd actually end up in Bali by wishing to be in Bali. I actually thought she was coping pretty well for an 8-year-old on her own, though I wish Sam and Dean had actually escorted her to her neighbor's house rather than leaving her alone.

And the "love match" was basically extended date rape, even if he didn't intend it that way initially, so I definitely didn't find that part amusing!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I really missed major parts here--I just freaked at the thought of the kid alone and didn't really get the wishing well deal.

The love match was unsettling, but it struck me exactly the same as the teddy--it was easy to be played for laughs on the surface but obviously it was a horrible thing in reality. That unbalanced, completely consuming love was just the kind of thing an emotionally immature, socially stunted and self centered man would wish for.

What if God turned out to be an 8-year-old girl who only created us for tea parties? I might attempt suicide, too

YES! There came the horror for me!! And the stuffing--crap, I flinched like it was blood. Mind you, I did like this ep, it was just the giant creepy ass suicidal teddy, it was...*brrr* And maybe this one just kind of trotted my own fucked upness out on parade. *G*

Dean as always was hotter than a hot thing. :)

But just as the parents had no way of knowing they'd wind up in Bali, Ted Raimi's character had no real way of knowing his wish would come true. I mean, yeah, his uncle or whoever told him it was a real wishing coin, but who believes in that for real anymore? (Other than monster hunters.) So he figures "what could it hurt" and wishes she loved him more than anything. It's a horrible thing to do if you know it will work, but if you know it will work, you're probably going to phrase your wish better than that so you can avoid the whole obsessive psycho factor. And until the boys came to town, he had no way of knowing how to undo it.

The thing that bothered me more was how, at the end, she just walks off like she's got a case of the convenient Smallville amnesia. Nobody else seemed to have forgotten the wishes that affected them, but she just looks at Ted and says, "Do I know you?" WTF?! Have a reaction, please! Call the cops, kick him in the balls, give him a patented Lana Lang "I can't believe you did that to me" speech, do *something* other than blink vacuously and wander off passively. No more than it affected her, you'd think he'd wished her out of thin air. Chalk it up to Edlund, I guess.

I think that would have made that bit so much better! It's what I expected.

The bear trying to die and not being able to *was* creepy. Very creepy.

The little girl seemed okay, actually - i imagine the parents, being whisked off to Bali without clothes or money were less than okay.

The 'love match' was icky.

Overall, this episode did make me sad. On a personal note, I am so glad I waited until Lin went to sleep to watch it -- thank God for taping!

I wonder when Dean actually remembered Hell? Or did he always recall everything? Maybe it came back gradually, but I hope they expand upon it a little. I knew from the first shot of them sitting in that horrible theme restaurant, Dean drinking like a fish, that nothing good would come of this episode. Sad, sad, sad, and very unsettling. Glad I wasn't the only one. . .

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)

It made me laugh out loud in spots but yeah, it was sad--and now I'm thinking it was a lot cooler than I'd originally thought.

thank God for taping!
*HUGS HUUUUUUUGS*

wonder when Dean actually remembered Hell?
I'm thinking he always remembered, but they didn't really give any sign of it until this ep. Unless I missed something which means now that I have to view all the eps I have saved--darn it. It's a filthy job, but someone has to do it.

[identity profile] cheerful-earl.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
For being billed as being funny in the trailer, I thought this episode was rather dark and creepy. The teddy bear just got progressively more and more disturbing. I think they were going for it. A sort of literal "be careful what you wish for... It's not even funny when we show you it onscreen." But I could be wrong, and the episode just fell flat when it should have been funny. IDK.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're right--mind you, I did think most of it was very funny, but viewed from that perspective I think it makes the ep that much better. Anyway, I think they've been doing that a lot so far, and it makes me a little nervous--what exactly are they getting us ready for?

[identity profile] nashmaveric.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you. The teddy freaked me right out. I kept thinking 'Is this supposed to be amusing? Because if it is, it fails on every level.'

*shudder* NOT amused.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The teddy was pathetic and sad, poor little thing, shoved into the world of the living and unable to cope, except through booze and porn and...wait a minute....

I think the only teddy bear scene that was supposed to be funny was the first one. You're not the only one who thought him shooting his stuffing out was creepy.

It's not the first time SPN turns something funny at first appearance into something very dark...

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-09 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)

It really kind of bounced from funny to sad a lot--though you have to admit, "Kneel before Todd" was pretty good.

[identity profile] dm-wyatt.livejournal.com 2008-11-10 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the bear was hysterical...

*shrug*

Different strokes, I guess...

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-11-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I watched it again, and it was less creepy and more sad this time around. I don't know. Maybe I picture my teddies being all suicidal and drinking cheap booze and stealing my porn and it makes me sad. I think I need to go hug my teddies now.
