Some really good stories

I'm not a Torchwood fan as such--I enjoyed the cracky goodness of the show but that was about it. Except, this winter, my beloved Niece started to watch the show and loved it and was frustrated by it so much that she began writing a series of fix-its that have blown me right out of the water. There are a few writers of fanfic who make me just melt, and she's one of them. I'm trying to talk her into posting them--I've been begging her to post at AO3 or in her own LJ or *somewhere*! She says when she's done the series--she's going ep by ep--she will. If you're interested at all, let me know, maybe I can use interest as a carrot. Or a flogger, either way works for me.

Ooooh!! YAY for your Niece writing TW fic. :D

First of all... is she a Jack/Ianto girl? If so, and she's fixing the fuck up that was 'Season 3', or The Season That Never Happened (for me), I'd love to read. Especially if she's putting Gwen in her place too. Gwen was TW's version of Lana. *gag* Sorry... a wee bit opiniated on that. *g*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
lol! Well, she's not a Gwen girl by any means but she's not a basher either, so anyone could red them and be satisfied. She's Jack/Ianto with heavy doses of fix this shit and she writes this *brilliant* Ianto, really brilliant. It's not shmoopy at all, but it's really good. :)

[identity profile] rosy5000.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
As much as I dislike Gwen, I don't normally like Gwen-bashing fics. But it's so easy for a writer to bash Gwen kindly, just by not allowing her to get away with everything like she did in the show.

If it's Ianto's POV, you've definitely got me sold! Especially if she writes him as well as you say. Ianto was one BAMF but they didn't let it show enough.

What pairings (assuming it's not gen) is she writing about?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
They mostly center on the odd relationship that is Jack/Ianto, but they're all an Ianto-centric point of view. I think you'd really enjoy them from a writing standpoint, even if you don't ship them.

Hi, Krycek, hi!

Ooh, definitely interested :) I too lost interest in the show after certain characters met their untimely demise, but I love the fandom. I hope your niece posts these fics!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-01 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
One way or another, we will get those stories online! I'm just thrilled she's writing fanfic again. :)

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh -- this sounds GOOD! Torchwood is an intriguing series, and your niece's stories would make for great sequels to the episodes! Not that I would ever lean too hard on a fan writer.... *looks innocent*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to ask her if I can post the first story here filtered. Can you tell I'm excited about this? *GGG*

How are you!! I *miss* you, you know!

[identity profile] jakrar.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You're so cute when you're excited! *twirls you*

And there've been a few complications here, but nothing too bad. *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
:( I'm sorry there were complications--I hope everything continues to get better.

*manymanyhugs*

I'd be interested too--the show is a great foundation but does need a lot of fixing! Ianto is a challenge to write, so I'm glad to hear she's doing him justice!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
So, if she lets me post one of the fics, you want to be on the filter? :)

[identity profile] quiet--tiger.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure!

[identity profile] twinsarein.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
You already know I'd love to see them. I hope she posts soon...no, pressure or anything - as long as she has them up as of yesterday. *g*

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
LOL!

She's looking to enter the piece as a whole as a Big Bang but she's having trouble finding an active one. Most won't let you post parts of your story and then use it as a submission, do they?

[identity profile] twinsarein.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it isn't active right now, but [livejournal.com profile] tw_bigbang will probably be starting it's next round sometime this summer. If your niece wants to wait that long.

As to your question, no, big bangs are supposed to be complete in, not part of a series. However, if the part posted is complete - doesn't leave on a cliffhanger, answers all questions posed in the story, etc - AND if it meets the minimum word count, then it can be accepted. She'd have to contact the mods of the TW BB to ask specifically. I'm just talking generally.

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I totally would read a set of Torchwood fix-its that you say are good. Absolutely. I recently watched the series and would love to read some fic for it -- whose quality is vouched for by a good writer, 'cause I wouldn't have the patience to search for the good stuff in that fandom.

Hugs,
Jackie

Girl, I'm not even bragging when I say my child can write rings around me. It's just fact-- ;)

She's actually one of the people who got me writing--[livejournal.com profile] tabaqui being the other. Between them, they got me started. I'm putting you an the filter, okay?

[identity profile] jackien1968.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm putting you on the filter, okay?"

part one is up, if you'd like to look!

Is it okay if I wait to read them in batches?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-05 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
but of course! I can drop you a line when she's finished the series is you like!

[identity profile] jackien1968.livejournal.com 2012-04-05 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. Or I might read the season one ones when those are up, or just read a few at a time.

Oh, oh I'm a carrot! I've gone off Torchwood a bit after CoE but I'm all for fix-it fics ::grin::

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-02 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! On the filter you go! :)

[identity profile] paradox18.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I love Torchwood and would be very interested in knowing where to go if you niece ever posts it

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-03 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll add you to the filter!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2012-04-05 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Part one is up if you'd like to look!
