advice please!

I know, I know--I'm always asking--but it really does help me figure out what to do! It helped me decide to post my BigBang in my sockmuppet LJ and I'm very, very pleased with how that worked--so much so that I think I'll stick with it in the future.

So, here's the thing--when they imported all those SSA stories into AO3 (good thing all around as far as I'm concerned) I had quite a few stories imported also. The thing is, some of those stories are ugly as sin, and they're also not accessible to folks without accounts plus I'd kind of not like to trumpet the little monstrosities all over even though I think they should remain in all their ugly glory. The question I have is this, would it be weird or goofy or unnecessary to repost those stories? I don't plan to do any major editing for writing--that was me then. Plus, I haven't really changed all that much, mostly just a rein on the its/it's and stuff like that. I'm as much the ellipses queen now as I was then. I just want to make them less ugly. :)

Well, since I've pretty much decided to do the same thing, I'd say go ahead and tweak those puppies! They're yours; do with them as you wish.

Also, your layout is so bright and optimistic! It's kind of giving me sunburn flashbacks, frankly. XD

Dude. My layout is starting to make me want to puke. I need to get back to the real me ;)

Ha! I was *this* close to asking what had happened to the real roxy but was afraid it might be taken the wrong way. Silly me! Brain twin always gets the joke!

Awwww, you knows me. :)

I don't see any problem with reposting stories with tweaks or whatever you're planning. I'd have more of mine unlocked if I had time to go through them to see exactly how bad they are. I've unlocked a lot of what I wrote on Livejournal (by then I was much better), but am a little wary of seeing the old stuff and analyzing it too closely.

Long-time fans may want a new way to read your stuff, and newer fans may not have seen it anywhere yet!

I do adore the way stories were imported without the authors having to do anything--awesomesauce, in my book! I just need to make time to really poke around the archive to learn how it works.

There are a few fics that I like, but I think need a little work. Plus I'm thinking hard about locking the fics on LJ and redirecting folks to the archive. It's just easier all around--no one needs to friend the lj and you can get alerts on new fic posting from AO3.

And then there's this: on LJ, I got 11 comments for my SVBB last year. I just checked the hit count on the archive--I got 1324 hits on the story. Granted that is a freakishly high hit count for me and none of my other stories are even a wee bit close to that but still...it feels pretty good. Even the super low counts are still higher than comments on LJ. And yes, attention hoor that I am, it makes me feel valued! :)

I know what you mean about the hits--I popped into one story after commenting last night to see if I had unlocked it, and it had 67 hits. Livejournal is wigging out on my right now so I can't tell you how many comments the same story got there, but it was only like 11, and I think a couple were from spam. It's a nice feeling, that someone somewhere is clicking, even if there aren't comments.

The other page finally loaded--7 actual commenters, one of which was a sock puppet and most of the others I didn't know. Granted that was my longish, dark, non-con story, so I wasn't expecting a lot of comments!

I say repost, tweak, do whatever you want.

I also say - i *am* going to read your 'We Used to be the Loners' story, but i was out of town and am way behind and *it's there*! In my tabs!! Swear, first thing tomorrow.
*luffs*

Ach, please, beloved! Not to worry, it's not like the story's going anywhere! Besides, it's a J2 and you don't read RPS, do you?

There's one not so good thing about posting fics to AO3--all the drawbacks in the story are more horribly apparent because it's one huge doc with nothing to distract from it. oy!

How about I just tell you all about it instead? I'll use fingerpuppets....*GGG*

Oh! Why did I think you didn't?

You know what, I would love to do the finger-puppets for you....*hmmmm* must figure out how....

Not many responses to the story but what comments there are have been so positive it makes me feel pretty darn good. *does a little chair dance of happiness*

Sweetie, you can go in and change that setting on the stories to make them accessible, I did mine. They tell you how to do it in the faq.

I'm so glad they brought the stories over for us like they did. It got me off my lazy duff and got me to start actually using my AO3 account. I love it! I've been trying to be diligent and post things over there, too now. It's so much easier for me to read stories on AO3 with how clean everything looks.

I did some minor tweaks to things and changed the posting dates so people could find them, too. :)

*hugs you hard*

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....hugs! :)

It is great, isn't it? And fabulous for folks like me who find that nowadays people just aren't using dark enough ink for anything, not to mention the horribly tiny and fuzzy typefaces everyone has started using--what the heck is up with that????

;)

I know! With my vision being slightly wonky now it really reduces eye strain for me. Especially since there are so darned many goodies there to read. :)
