Not bad! My heart went skippity when Phil Coulson walked on screen, even though I knew, of course. Bits of humor, a little heavy handed on the hero biz but I'm watching the next ep.
hah! I expected to be so much less impressed than I was, lol! But the sets were good, and some of the acting was pretty good, and hey, J. August, it was good to see him. :)
so, all in all, not too bad! Now we just need Angel's writers and we're good to go!
Pilots are almost always a little dodgy. You've got to establish your premise (even if you're based on an existing property) and your characters (ditto), and you've got to squeeze in some plot, and you've got to do it in 43 minutes. It's hard to hit that balance and hit the ground running, and Joss hasn't written an episode of TV in 4 years according to the imdb ("Vows", the Season 2 premier of Dollhouse)--his TV mojo's a little rusty, is all. :)
Oh yeah, that's true--Phil bounced about a little in his characterization, but I'm guessing (hoping) that his character will settle as the series does.
