omgosh...I just realized--what happened to those little jukeboxes that used to be at each booth in the diners?

Gosh. It sucks getting old. You know, in my day, the candy bars were as big as SUVs. Truth. It would take us two days to eat one, and it only cost a dime. Comics too. On the down side, we had to walk to school. On our knees...through snow. Even if it was summer. Really.

Yeah, those were the good old days. lol

I went to the movies every Saturday with my friends. My mother gave me $1.00 for a ticket and $.35 for popcorn.
My kids need $20 easy to go the theater now.

I know it! I came up on an army base--ten cents got us a movie, two cartoons and a serial every Saturday. We got Roy Rogers, or Rocket Man, or the Stooges. If we went to McDonalds it was a big deal! Nowadays, kids don't go to McDonalds anymore, they go to Applebee's or whatever.

Penny candy and you got more than one piece for a penny.

$.25 Saturday matinees.

Saddle shoes that wore a hole in all your bobby socks as well as your heel before they broke in properly and you had to polish them every Saturday so they looked good on Sunday for church.

Pink foam hair rollers that left dents in your hair and dents in your head when you slept on them.

Girls not being allowed to wear pants to school unless it was gym day. Frozen knees because not allowed to wear pants to school unless it was gym day.

Walking home from school for lunch.

One-speed bike that you stopped by pedalling backwards (almost killed myself on one of them new-fangled ones when I forgot to brake with my hand).

I've got a cane for each hand. En Garde!

Yeah, it was the torture of the damned becuase my mother declared if I wanted long hair, it had to be curled, otherwise pixie cut and I never went to a hair salon for those (Mom, what are you doing with that razor?). The worst part? My hair is dead straight thin blonde and by 11 in the morning - no curl, just dents. Another wonderful alternative was the home perm. Eek!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I *hated* those rollers!

Ooo, and lunch at home--my favorite part of the day!

I'd forgotten back-pedaling to stop! lol! Yeah, first time on a ten-speed was yowtch!

And watermelon strips, coke bottles, lemon heads, turkish taffy and pixie stix--when they were sour-mmmmmm!

[identity profile] epeters.livejournal.com 2007-05-11 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so you two have a couple years on me based on movie prices. lol
I never went home for lunch, didn't need the curlers, and could wear pants to school around the second grade or so.
But, I bought penny candy for a penny, had a pair of saddle shoes, and pedalled backwards on my bike. :)

They have those little jukeboxes at the Silver Diner, although I don't know how nationwide that chain is.

I remember when cigarettes cost .50 cents. o_o

Keep off my lawn, you damn kids! *threatens neighborhood children with my walker, complete with tennis balls on the feet* :D

We still have one place here in St. Louis that has those, Crown Candy Kitchen - it's an old soda fountain ice cream place. I don't even know if they function, but they still have them at every table.
