*fume*

Why would you post a link to a friends-locked LJ? But more importantly, why is it annoying me?

[identity profile] herohunter.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I just did that yesterday or the day before, and it was an oversight on both mine and the other person's parts. Once someone pointed it out to me, we fixed it.

:)

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
see? you did it by mistake--other folks do it for...I don't know why, really.

*HUGS*

you can do no wrong! *beams*

[identity profile] herohunter.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha! Oh, how I wish that were so, Beloved!

So they did it on purpose? Well! *huffs*

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
God, it annoys me!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
it's just so---*grrr*!

I hate when people link to locked stuff. It's rude because the people they're trying to share with can't access the stuff, so it might feel exclusionary, or at the very least if you click on it means you want to see it, and your hopes get crushed a little when you can't see it.

If you're gonna link to a locked post, indicate that it's locked. Or when people post in communities and say that their fic is linked to their locked journal, that annoys the hell out of me. I want to read people's stories, but I'm not going to beg for the privilege.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I rechecked and they did indicate it was locked, so I went off a little half-cocked but still...

[identity profile] selinamoonfire.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I can never figure that out. That and people that post fic for a couple of days, then lock it to friends only and it's a multi chapter WIP!!!

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
oh gosh yes! posting and then locking--it's so frustrating if you want to recheck a scene or dialog.

Heee! your icon!!

[identity profile] selinamoonfire.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
LOL my frazzled icon. I will probably feel like that tomorrow. :D

[identity profile] elandrialore.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I have a tendency to do that without realizing it, but as soon as it's pointed out to me I usually make sure people know. But yeah, it's annoying.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
It happens--I always forget to apply my filters to a post, so I'm running behind myself to fix it. :)

[identity profile] ladydreamer.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's really aggravating. I don't know if they want extra friends or what. I know there's concern about people finding your fic, or the latest LJ PURGE OF DOOM, but sometimes it sounds like "Friend me and read my fic/look at my arts!" I personally keep those posts open so they can read if they want without having to make some sort of commitment.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's odd, right? I rate stuff like that right up there with "this is how i demand you credit me" in icon posts. It automatically makes me click away.

[identity profile] lunarknightz.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I had that happen to me with an icon post in a community. Seriously, if you're only making them for friends (and that in itself doesn't bother me) why promote it to a community?

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* Which is exactly why I bitched here. Don't most comms frown on that? I know I do. :)

[identity profile] carolinecrane.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
People do that in icon comms All. The. Time. It is made of fail. I am not going to friend your stupid icon journal just for the privilege of viewing your icons, no matter how good (you think) you are. Whore yourself out in public like the rest of us and deal with the fact that people don't comment.

Not that I'm bitter or anything. ::cough::

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
*GRIN*
Of course not...I was going to leave a polite little note, explaining why I thought it was rude but decided that the person probably wouldn't care, and I'm not the LJ Mom.

[identity profile] mobiusklein.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
My attitude is that you should only put on the web something you're OK with everyone seeing (well, after you put up proper warnings so nobody gets squicked accidentally), especially something that IS meant to be consumed. Also, many people go a long time without logging in so even if they are your friends, they may never see that particular entry. You basically cut into your audience right off the bat.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
You're right. Goodness knows I *want* everyone to see what I'm doing--or I wouldn't be here!

[identity profile] kaydee23.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't like it when communities post links to locked fics. If people don't want their fic read, don't rec them to a community. I'm not going to beg anyone to read something they're writing. It happens a lot in the communities I watch. :frowns:

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It's just seems as if the person is trying to force folks in a way. That's no way to see if people are paying attention!

[identity profile] iibnf.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I do it occasionally - I just don't notice the tiny little lock every time.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
But this is different--this is posting and saying that your entry is locked--which I didn't see at first. *koff* Kind of not until I started bitching about it, actually.

[identity profile] suzvoy.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my God. SO ANNOYING. There's fic in QAF fandom that I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO READ - but I refuse to ask to be friended. It's the principle of the thing!

[identity profile] frelling-tralk.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Grr what I don't get is the icon posts that warn they will be unlocked for two days, and then they will lock it. What exactly is the point of that???

If I had my way only public links would be allowed in fic and icon communities, it's getting ridiculous with icon posts especially.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*nodnod* I don't think they get how *really* annoying it is.
ender24: (Default)

why is it annoying me?

[personal profile] ender24 2009-01-28 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
probably , why it annoys about 99% of all readers, who sees that?
because you have to ask , before you can see their work?

for two years now, I have got a policy: I dont mind asking them, but also make crystal clear, I wont friend anyone back , just to be able to see their flocked or communitylock art, fic or whatever.
What I do is, I promise that person, there will be comments and feedback from me, on stuff that interests me.
I will not friend them back though.
If they can live with that, I would be more than happy if they friend me and give me access to their artwork. if not, then not.

from the reactions, I can see, if that person does it out of vanity and just to have a big number of people friending them to boast their ego, or if they just do the flocked to protect their stuff, either from being stolen or all kinds of legal hassle with porn and slash and underage stuff.

so far, it works with most people, i have met, who have flocked LJ for their stuff.
