How do I pick a story to read at AO3? I go by the amount of tags, the chattiness of the tags, and how many characters are listed. The more there are of all of these, the less inclined I am to take a chance. And of course, the ever popular warning, "This is crap", is a sure-fire way to tell if a story is crap. And if the writer apologizes in advance, another sure sign it sucks. I mean, heck, I'm willing to take the writer's word. Who knows better than they do if it's worth reading or not?

A few days ago I asked for good wishes--I think things are moving in a positive way. I'll keep you guys posted and thanks!

Lotsa sex

I mean, is that too much to ask for? *G*

My sole purpose in life is to be a bad influence. ;)

Not to mention "I suck at summaries". It amazes me sometimes how hard some authors seem to work to discourage readers from clicking into the story.

Right? What the heck--why bother writing if you don't want anyone to read?

*sends a fresh batch of wishes!*

*HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGS*
Thank you, love!

Haha! Yeah. Also "come on, read it, you know you want to!!!!!" Actually, based on a lot of summaries and authors saying they suck, I really, really don't!

Sending all the good wishes I've got your way.

LOL! I save myself the eyeball burn, and appreciate the warning. :D

And thank you so much!

Oh, yes, on all counts. Ditto (a lot of) typos, nonsensical syntax or other errors in the header. Also, I agree with upthread: I always lean heavily toward the explicit rating. And try not to fall over..

Glad things are looking up. ♥

Explicit ratings are excellent! I just wish the folks writing the porn would realize that all other writing rules still apply. I like at least a little thinky with my hotness, even if it's PWP.

OMG YES! to all of the above! When the list of tags look longer than the story, no thank you! And major spelling/grammar errors in tags & summaries. I also use the number of comments/kudos in comparison to the number of hits.

You know I'm always sending positive thoughts your way, but I'm sending an extra wave for you. :) ♥

*loves you so much*!

There's a story at AO3, I kid you not, the tags list goes on for ever. Any character even thought about is listed, along with I have no idea what because I fell asleep before I finished reading the tags. ;)

Oh, I just LOVE the "I suck at summaries" line. Shows lack of imagination. Anyone in the second grade taught to write outlines could come up with something passable, for Pete's Squeaks!

THANK YOU!!

Cryin' out loud, if you truly suck, someone out there will help you! What they mean is, "I'm too lazy to think about my story and come up with a reason you should read it." I know this to be true because, *koff* well. We'll just leave that alone... ;)

Pete's Squeaks??? I LOVE that!! :D

Heh, heh. Pete's Squeaks is a favorite expression of the lead character in Black And Blue Magic, a very interesting children's book I read many moons ago and it still sticks with me. Good writing, that. Had a good summary, too. ;)
