Wow! this is awesome! What a fantastic idea! the period stuff is hard ~ i so know that! the more inspired you get about it, the more you realize you don't know, and will have to research. and then more ideas come along, and still nothing gets written. Speaking for myself, of course.
This has a fairy tale feel to it. I'm thinking a way to get around not being an expert in every detail of the period is to focus on the immediate sensual experiences, which you have done here and always do so well, and being sort of vague as to details, for example, it doesn't matter so much if you don't know exactly how clothing or carriages were styled, if you can describe the texture of the velvet or brocade, or the gleam of polished wood or metal. I don't know how much of what is true for victorian England would apply, but a couple of things i've read ~ avoid the use of contractions, and when you have a choice between two words, pick the one that has a latin root. that should at least give you more of a period feeling.
And what you can "get away with" probably depends on your fandom. I really like the fairytale fablish atmosphere for this story, I think, because Smallville/Superman/Boy is really a fairy tale anyway.
