I loved it, sweetie. I think that it opens up all kinds of story potential for them. I don't see it as a retcon. Except for that one sentence about 'his old man' to John in 'In the Beginning' and that he came from a family of mechanics, we know nothing about John's upbringing. And, Jeremy Carver wrote it so he knows what he wrote. I've read that they, the PTB, are saying that John's mother remarried and that's who ended up raising John. That's all it takes for it to make sense.

I love that we find out that Sam truly does take after his dad, Dean takes after his mom. I think that knowing this helps Sam understand himself more than he ever could before. It even makes sense of John's being so pissed about Sam's 'abandoning' his family.

Not that I've been thinking about this or anything. ;)
