SpN Big Bang Recs
6/12/11 08:51 pmSo, it's that time of year again! Free candy for everyone, in all kinds of flavors! I'm reading steadily when I'm not crying over my own stuff, and it's time to let you know what I'm liking! Feel free to ask questions, discuss stories, whatever your little heart desires--i'm here for you! :)
Also, forgive the crummy look--I'm too lazy to fix it, and LJ's being a horrible bitch--AGAIN.
Fic title: To Fight in the Shade
Author name: lovesrain44
Artist name: kazue7294
Genre: Gen
Rating: PG13
Word count: 52,675
Warnings: sweaty training, h/c, darkfic, sad/angry Sam, beatings. No death, no slash, no permanent bruises or maiming.
Summary: During a hot summer in a cabin in a remote part of Alabama, John trains Sam and Dean for their future as hunters. Dad expects the boys to pay attention and work hard. Dean loves hunting and is happy as can be. The only thing that makes him mad is the fact that Sam is as unhappy as he can be because Sam doesn’t love hunting or anything to do with it. To Sam, it’s the summer from hell because the only thing he wants to do is go to school and play soccer. But they’re not in school, and Dad thinks soccer will attract the wrong type of attention so he’s forbidden soccer to Sam.
I haven't read any other stories in this 'verse before so I didn't have any idea what to expect. I'm glad I didn't know anything going in—it made for an absorbing, *very* intense read. It's very harsh, and sometimes mean, but also uplifting, poignant and knowing what the future is going to bring, heartbreaking. It's all from Sam's POV—the POV of a thirteen year old, so be warned. Everything might not be exactly as it seems, if one remembers their own childhood impressions of the world.
So, this year, the first story I read in the Big Bang was GEN! I know, right???
Fic title: Put You Down For A While
Author name: rockstarpeach
Artist name: spikessire
Genre: Wincest
Pairing: Dean/Sam, slight Sam/other, Dean/others. Other characters include Cas and a Bobby cameo.
Rating: Adult
Word count: 27K
Warnings: sex, language, infidelity
Summary: Sam hasn’t always been in love with Dean. He is now though, and despite his initial reservations, his fears that Dean wouldn’t be able to commit and he’d end up breaking Sam’s heart, they’re together and they’re happy. Things are surprisingly good between them. Or they are until Dean suddenly starts to shut Sam out without explanation and Sam is driven to making a mistake that Dean might not be able to forgive.
Packed full of brother issues and lover issues and angst and jealousy and insecurity and that special kind of dysfunction that only the Winchesters can deliver. A story about a hard time in a relationship, set against a backdrop of fairly ordinary hunting jobs and nosey secondary characters.
I love the 'verse this is set in—but you don't need to have read those to enjoy this. You know I like my wincest with rending of garments and ash smeared on the forehead, and this is right there. Sam screws up, and Dean reacts like Dean. Again, it's more than that, a lot more, and well worth the read.
Also, forgive the crummy look--I'm too lazy to fix it, and LJ's being a horrible bitch--AGAIN.
