I can't believe Michael Jackson is dead. It seems so unreal...he was just part of our lives, folks my age. It used to be cool to like Michael. Everyone liked him, white folks, black folks, he was cute, omg, so cute until he lost his damn mind and started fucking up his face. That was a damn shame. Those first two resculpting made him look fine, and then after that, it was the Twilight Zone. I used to feel sorry for him though. Man, how could you hate yourself so much that you didn't want to look like yourself anymore? I used to think he was trying to look like Janet--that's her real face. Maybe a tiny bit of work on the nose. But he kept on going and going until finally, instead of talking about his music, and the probably eternal influence he'll have on the music world, lots of us are talking about his face. That's a shame. That's just wrong.

michael, from when he was so very hot and sweet.

I felt very hard-hit by this news. He was a beautiful young man, wasn't he? I remember the thrill of seeing him sing and dance as a boy, with his brothers--what a dynamo he was, and how very significant it was way back then for a white middle-class family like mine to be all excited over a black performer. Michael seemed to disappear for a while, and then he surged back in the early 80s with what still stand as the most amazing music videos ever made, and a truly iconic great album of songs.

I always felt such sadness, watching him spiral down into that strange place he finally came to the end of today. No matter how bizarre the reports of his life and difficulties, I never had any inclination to make jokes about him or be disgusted. He was just so not of this world. The picture you found to post here, even though it was ostensibly taken before he started downward, reflects the sorrow that he always exuded.

Rest in Peace, Michael.

His was a unique talent, one which I know has influenced a generation of musicians, and will continue to have an impact long after his death today. The last years of his life I found pitiful and sad, and the Michael you have posted is the one that I'll always remember.

Aw, I know. He looks so normal here.

I dunno, I think he had a life full of pain. May he rest in peace.
