Believe me, the files aren't gone, it's like the computer has just forgotten how to access them. When I was first installing WIn XP a couple of years ago I clicked the wrong thing and it reformated my whole darned hard drive, I lost everything. Believe it or not, I was able to retrieve all of it with software. So, I know software like that works.
It's sure worth giving a try so you don't lose all of that work.
