The main thing that's driving Clark here is hurt, a deep and horrible hurt. He was a teen-aged kid dragged in the midddle of something he didn't understand and all he knew was that he'd been used in some way by the guy he thought loved him, and Lex's part in it he couldn't see. What he did see looked negative, and at that age you're self centered enough to only view the world as how it affects your own self. Clark really couldn't understand that Lex was as much a victim as he was.

And still he wanted to save Lex.
