What a wonderful AU you're creating here! Your descriptions of the people, the environment, the atmosphere are all spot on.

I liked the allusion to "Strange Fruit" in the first part. I have that song on one of my Nina Simone albums. It's chilling.

I'm enjoying the way you present Clark's appetite (chitlins! Hee!) and his puppydogness. Very cute *g*
