Has anyone taken Paxil for a while and then stopped taking it?

I stopped taking Paxil two days ago. I wasn't expecting anything bad, since I planned it in advance and progressively diminished my dayly dose, but reading the comments on your post makes me nervous. <_<

I took Paxil for five years and then went off it cold turkey.

Which was, looking back, incredibly stupid of me. I had a miserable four days during which I was irritable, got brain zapped constantly and just nauseated all the time. Then I was fine, but man - there has to be a better way to get off that stuff. Effexor, by the way, is ten times worse, even if you step-down to get off.

Paxil is evil. I had horrible side effects when I was on it, and I getting off it was sheer, unadulterated hell. They should have never allowed it on the market. I felt worse when I was taking it than I did just having the damn depression.

Yeah, in highschool my mother was convinced I ought to try a antidepressant for some pretty usual teenage angst stuff. And after a month of it, I went off. There was this one night that I was on it, where everything just felt *dead*. It was so awful. I was more depressed than I'd ever been. I ended up calling a friend of mine and asking her to convince me that it wasn't true, that everything wasn't dead inside and empty. It really messed me up. But when I went off, I was fine. Paxil is just like that for some people, I guess.

Yep. You have to progressively cut the dose in half, take that for two weeks, then cut it in half again, take that for two weeks, then you can quit.

It gave me what felt like electric shocks when I was cutting down.

I am currently back on paxil, since without it, I become entirely too angry over what amounts to nothing.

I think my recent episode which resulted in my changing my journal name is a result of having cut back on buspar.
