Either way it hurts Clark knowing in the end that he was an active participant in disallusioning Lex to the extent that he walks right into Fine's manipulations. And that Clark's own lies were the reason that Lex was now in jeopardy (making him the ultimate victim for Clark to save). And to lose him in the act of saving him...makes it all the more painful.
