The way I see Clark here, he ends up being manipiulative, very controling and a tad abusive. He definitely loves Lex, and Bruce, but he's not at all the selfless, warm-hearted and generous kid that he was, and this is the result that Whit saw. The whole bit with Lex at the end is all about how Clark controls him.
