I figured that Jonathan,as a high school jock, would push Clark towards it if he didn't have to worry about Clark'sscret getting out. And speaking of that--looking at the ol eps, the man was positively obnoxious about it. You get the sense sometimes that he barely restrains himself from saying 'deformity'. Of course, poor departed Bo was never one of my favorites.
