I wasn't going to read this, but... I had to. Oh, you know, in high school I sang that edelwiess song--how does it go--

And it's what I kept thinking all through this little story. Now I don't know if you had this song in mind while writing this, but, it sure made me feel both nostalgic and sappy. And I am so glad you didn't porn this up in a way-- it's all the more sweet without it.
My favorite bits:
"Look Clark, this ornament…it doesn’t mean… you're not a girl, Clark."
"I kind of knew that already, Whit."
Made me laugh out loud! Hee!
And I know Clark and Lex are my favorite OTP, but your Whitney and Clark... *sigh* He's more of the best friend that Clark needs and can trust. I adore Lex, so much, but Whit--he's got more of Clark's mindset.
In a way, he sort of reminds me of Bruce, but a very young Bruce. A Hero, and a completely human one, who matches Clark in so many ways, and yet differently than Lex does, and it still fits and works--
And he will be the one, when he sees Clark fall so madly in love with his soulmate, to nobly and graciously back away, once he realizes just what's up--but til then, he's gonna fight to hold onto Clark. I love him for that.
Love that you can intimate all these things with just a few paragraphs.
