I'm really enjoying this story (again), but am so glad that I live nowadays and not in such a bigotted and hypocritical society. The vicious heartlessness of the 'Heartland' had to be seen to be believed, and children were often the worse offenders.

Poor Jonathan and Martha, and what a brave sister Hannah is.

I'm looking forward to re-reading the rest of the story - so beautifully written.
