Can a gun really fire silver bullets? What does a disemboweled body smell like? It's been an interesting evening. Looking up stuff for a story I'm playing with has taken me from Wu-Tang to the Home&Garden channel. Is it any wonder that writing takes me aaaaaaall day long? I mean, if the action in your story takes place in a bathroom, do you look up what is the most popular flooring material at the moment? Is this research or noodling? That little scene in EOTS I wrote about Clark in the bathroom took forever. But I learned a lot about bathrooms back in the day, and I found out that full baths with tubs and showers and stuff were being built into homes a lot earlier than I thought. Fascinating no? Of course! Guess what I'm doing this very moment? Blathering so I don't have to write! Yes! I do that! All the time!

I *love* story-telling!

Wow, I usually do some research on stuff that I just want to get right and need a little more info on, but you are hardcore.

Research? Nah...well, okay, I confess I tend to get caught up with looking up things like what gun the best spies use and address of a fine hotel in Paris and how long it would take to drive from Zurich to Paris and which roads to take and....

And what songs would work in a fic set in the 1930's. *grin*

Then there are the images I go cruising for when I put together covers.

Writing? What's that?

Boy, do I feel your pain!

I know what you mean about nitpicking the details of your own story. I've completely derailed stories because I couldn't fit details I wanted into real historical periods. I've spent weeks learning about everything from geography to pre-conquest writing systems. I've learned that Google is an insiduous trap. Don't ever think that there's not such a thing as too much information.

I've actually thrown up my hands and declared a story to be a completely fantastical AU so that I'd stop researching and just tell the story.

Oh, dude! Do you remember the chapter I wrote in CFMWH that took place during Lex and Bruce's semester at Princeton? For that, I spent literally FOUR hours looking around all the various suburbs outside Princeton, NJ and finding their apt. and figuring the driving time. . . and then I went into Lex's "school" websites -- Princeton and Harvard -- and plotted out what Lex's friggin' course schedules would be, and when his finals were and what day of the week that would have fallen on (coz that chapter took place so long ago :). . .

yeah, I totally get it. *huff* Urrgh. And now, I'm going to have to look up all sorts of law stuff for when they start getting the case together. . . and all I know about that is what I learned a long time ago from my father and L&O episodes! *g* Ah, writing! Can't live with it, and. . .

Can guns really fire silver bullets... in books they can and in the films so i'm going to go with yeah heh.

And i think disembowled body smell like outhouses, but that's not something i really wanna research for you heh. But then i guess that poses to what the hell do out-houses smell like? It's not something i've ever had the misfortune of ever having my nose stuck in.
