Back again! It's a lovely day,I have the morning free, before--riiccchhh--ptooie! I have to go to work...so, more story? Well, it's a -comin' anyway!

*poik* here it is!

After one o’clock, Clark knew his parents were sound asleep, and left to go to Lex’s. He had to clear this up tonight. Being mad at Lex hurt, it made him feel small and lost. He needed him, he knew after seeing Lex standing there in the drive, looking like an angel, he just-- needed him. There had to be a way to make this right.

The picture of Lex standing by his car, looking concerned and a little nervous drifted through his mind again. He felt like a bit of an idiot, and blushed when he thought of how goofy he must have looked, hunched up in front of Lex trying his best to cover his pants—. Clark sighed at how pathetic he was. He slipped into the house and made his way to Lex’s study, Lex was always up late.

No light was on in his study, or in the entertainment room. He decided that Lex wouldn’t mind if he went to his bedroom, and a moment later, he stood outside the room and tapped lightly on the door. When he got no answer, he gave in to impulse, and let himself in.

Clark stood frozen at the door. A dim bedside lamp was the only source of light in the room, but it was enough to reveal Lex, on the bed.

Clark looked and thought,"He’s so--young….”

He always thought of Lex as his wiser, older, world-weary friend, but seeing him sleeping, face smoothed out, his mouth a little open and soft, not tightened by a sardonic smile—it was like seeing him for the first time. He *was* young. He was almost a kid himself, and he had the weight of a much older man on his shoulders. So many responsibilities, to himself and others. Clark thought of all the times Lex made himself available to him—it never occurred to him that Lex may have had to set aside other things for Clark’s little impromptu visits. Things that were surely more important then some high school kid’s desire to play pool. He felt a little shiver of embarrassment, shame, at being so selfish, taking Lex for granted.

Clark moved closer, and looked down on him, and felt –a shift in his chest…a warming that filled his whole being. Yes, Lex cared for him. He knew that bone-deep now. Yes, Lex would do anything to protect him and his folks. Even if it meant risking his friendship with Clark.

He was beginning to realize exactly what Lex meant when he said he’d do anything for a friend.

He was also beginning to understand that his friend was capable of carrying a lot of pain. He crossed the room, and stood by the side of the bed, and just...watched. Looked into the face of the person he loved. He was sure of it now. What went on before was just that, before, nothing. Now was the start of something new.

He realized that Lex was holding something—did he sleep with a security blanket? The thought made Clark smile, so he leaned closer and saw that it wasn’t a blanket, it was his jacket.

Lex was curled around the jacket he’d left at the castle, one hand wrapped tight in the fabric. Clark doubted that he’d be able to pull it away from him; he held it so tight. He grinned and ran a finger down his cheek. The change was startling, a little crease formed in the center of his brow, his lips turned down just a bit, and his eyes tightened, lines forming in the corners, and there was the Lex he saw every day. Clark couldn’t stop himself. His hand went out and caressed Lex’s head, so smooth so warm. He eased himself on the bed, but when he was on the bed, Lex’s eyes shot open---stared into Clarks in shock for a moment.

“I –I was dreaming—" he began, till the reality of Clark in his bed hit him. “Clark. What are you doing here?” he reached out and touched Clarks face as though to reassure himself he really was awake. Clark laid a hand over his. He said simply,"I came to apologize.”

And kissed Lex.
