Hmm, GOOD question! I think that in SV, it could be the lack of good female characters. I myself write original Het and it doesn't make me gag, but you know my motto: the more penises, the better!

I actually like het. I've written a lot of Shinji/Asuka, which is the main het pairing of Evangelion, and Sally Po & Wufei of Gundam Wing which has very few fans because usually it's Wufei/Treize. Given the right spin, I also enjoy f/f. I actually see a bit of subtext between a couple of the women on swingtown.

I think it's partly because most of the time the canon het pairing gets to let it all hang on onscreen so there's not much to embellish. (I love Mulder & Scully, Delenn & Sheridan, Sun & Jin but have no compulsion to write them because I'm happy with what I'm getting. I'm also happy with the Winchester brothers for the same reason. ) Also in a lot of stories, the romance isn't treated as THE epic relationship but someone he comes home to after doing his thing so it's a bit boring. The exceptions I list above usually have the woman and man working as partners on the same job/side or at least the woman is very much part of the action, not a DiD.

Sadly it isn't. He doesn't show nearly enough skin in Hancock. I didn't think his body would get any better after "Bad Boys" (the scene with him running down the street in a tank top nearly broke up my friend's relationship), but Will has body.

my reason for not liking het (reading or writing it) would probably border on TMI, if not fall right over the line: it makes me know what i'm missing out on. there was a clark/lois/lex triangle story that just about killed me that way, as lois was so spectacularly sexually fulfilled. if i read about or write about the guys together, there's no jealousy in it for me.

ETA Tried to imagine writing a het scene and yeah. It's show-and-tell-y. Can't help but think about personal stuff and then it suddenly turns into TMI. Which is icky to me. Also, a little weird. Good thing I like the slash then ::grin::

Will Smith is a fine looking man. Whatever of him they want to show in his movies, I will be happy to see.

On the het question, which of course is the flipside of the vexing "why slash?" question, after ten years of knowing about and reading and participating in slash, I have NO FREAKIN' CLUE "what it is about Teh Slahs" and therefore no answer to the het question.

Your theory certainly has some merit. But I just don't know.

Completely unrelated, but I felt like sharing that last night I dreamed that I stopped by your house (?), and you were all nice to me, like you didn't even mind that a complete stranger just came over. XD

I think we gossiped about stuff, but I can't really remember.

P.S.: I still have not seen I Am Legend. That seems wrong to me.
