I thought the sky had fallen!

I'm thinking that I do want to do that backup thing. I'd hate to lose all the comments on my LJ. I'm not going to lie, I go back to the ones that say, "oh roxy, lawks, you are several kinds of woo-hoo special and better than sliced bread" whenever I feel like sporking my eyes out. (remember sporks?)

Please someone on my freind's list who is kind and has the patience of a saint and is used to dealing with the terribly techno-impaired explain to me hosw such a thing is possible?

Most people do the LJ book, which saves the whole thing into a PDF file (but you can only do it three times before they charge you) or ljarchive, which saves it all into a program on your computer and syncs up with your journal when you're logged in and open ljarchive.

I know! I almost wet myself. I was like, "But how will I ever find my friends again?" Just in case, machenise@gmail.com.

i've used LJBook to make a .pdf file of each year of my journal, and then i've printed them up at Lulu on the cheap. the comments aren't there, which is sad, but i've counted on LJ not disappearing to preserve those. you CAN save the file with comments, but that'd make them too long to print.

in case you want to look into it anyway

they're very very busy right now. some people use ljarchive, but i haven't had any success with that.

I'm not that savy, but would you take a little fic instead?

I was wondering if LJ was dead when everything came crashing down. I use LJ Archive to back up mine. I've heard there's some nifty program that'll back it up and post it all on another type of journal but I haven't tried it yet.

I prefer to use LJArchive, but I've heard there may be troubles if you try backing up too much with it (without a definition of what 'too much' might be ;_;). When I first shifted to insanejournal, I also used LJ-Sec to transfer some of my fic-journal's files; it won't transfer the comments, but since I never delete an email (ever), I don't feel that I lost them. ^^

I found this link, which seemed to cover all the ones I knew about and had instructions for each one. ^^

I use LJ archive, which isn't too hard to set up. You just need to enter your journal url (http://www.livejournal.com/users/roxymissrose) and your password.

Then, whenever LJ threatens to implode (or weekly/monthly/hourly/etc) you can update just by opening the program and refreshing.

Bonus! It allows you save comments and then you can search all your comments and entries for when you realize you've been a dumbass titling your posts and you can't find something you are desperately looking for.

Duuuude.
ljarchive.

I've used it a number of times, it saves all your comments and everything, it's totally awesome.

Roxy I have no idea what's going on! What's happening to LJ and why don't I know about it?!
