This is a hard ending. Man, I wanted a happy ending for all three of them. But I think this is a real story about them. And if we know one thing about the Winchesters, it is that they don't get what they want.
I have to say, though, that even though Dean and Sam may have ended the thing right there, I can feel it lingering. and it feels like it might just burst open again at some point. At that time, they'll finally have to talk about Patrick and what he meant to them--and I bet it will straighten out a lot of bent memories and assumptions. I got to wonder why Dean agreed to stay in that shower with Pat. And Sam has already said that Patrick was a magnet holding him and Dean together. I just don't know how mcuh either of them realizes that poor Pat was loved, but still very much a conduit for what they couldn't admit they wanted.
Such a lovely story, Roxy! I think you nailed young Sam and Dean and wrestled with a lot of issues. Most of my favorite episodes deal with the weechesters, and I think I might have to say that about my favorite fic, too. I loved the insight this brought to their adult selves. Wonderful!
