Late to the party as usual....
4/10/10 02:34 amI watched Sherlock Holmes tonight and it was very good. I really enjoyed it and for once, Jude Law didn't make me wince with his unattractiveness. They were both excellent, as was the bad guy, Lord Blackwood was it? The look of the movie was *fabulous*. Shot after shot had me sitting there open-mouthed. Just incredible to look at.
Here's the thing—where was this slashiness that everyone was on about? I saw it not at all! I was a little disappointed. What I saw was a brotherly love. A really deep love—I could see that Watson was so fond of Sherlock that it would be hard to for him to live without him—which proved how much he loved Mary(who was *wonderful*, I thought. I never thought much of her—was she the first one?--getting in between Watson and Sherlock the way she did—what?? I fucking shipped everyone as a child!! There was no such thing as het romance in WeeRoxy's world). I saw that Sherlock got on Watson's nerves fiercely, but the very thing that annoyed him, he also found cute. And Sherlock knew it and worked it so hard. Sherlock was a weasely, annoying, selfish, self-centered little boy in a man-suit, and I found it awfully endearing, just like Watson did. Heck—that practically describes me—only without the man suit part and the dashing RDJ rough but oddly attractive looks and the incredible daring-do, unless you count being on route 130 at rush-hour to be derring –do…but I digress.
In short, enjoyed it muchly, not much slash but full of love. And derring-do.

4/10/10 06:49 am (UTC)This was a relationship that was still friendly and loving, but Watson had broken it off and was going to marry someone else, despite Sherlock's desperate and immature efforts to keep holding on.

Re: A fun fact about Lord Blackwood
4/10/10 06:52 am (UTC)I did think that Blackwood looked a lot more like Sherlock Holmes than RDJ did, because Jeremy and Basil Rathbone have always been my type for Holmes.
Yes, I totally agree with you about the House/Wilson style friendship, only there's a lot more open affection between Holmes and Watson. (adn i actually find House/Wilson kind of slashy, even if it's not my cup of tea)

4/10/10 01:16 pm (UTC)However, I'm willing to live in a fantasy world where these relationships as lovers might be more possible. (Except for the original ST, 'cause EEK! Just, no. They are forever friends.)
All that said, I actually did see slash in SH, the first time I ever have, save in shows that make it come true - Torchwood and Oz come to mind. Or at least the potential for a sexual relationship was there, but Holmes decided he'd end the possibility for all time by marrying Mary.
More than you ever wanted to know about my thoughts, I'm sure. *shrugs* However, I laughed when I read your post, since your disappointment in not seeing the slash in SH matches mine in all other cases.

4/10/10 04:34 pm (UTC)Jude is so scrumptious!
:)
I enjoyed the movie. I was...eh about Mary because - she had practically zero screen time. Exactly how was i supposed to care about her? Plus the whole 'i don't mind if your friend tells me all about myself' thing, and then he *does*, and she gets pissed. It's like - well, you *said* he could. That annoyed me. But still - she wasn't *in* the movie hardly!
It was a fun movie, yes, and the boys seemed so happy playing old married couple. I dunno. I slash merely because Jude and RDJ are so frickin' adorable and lovely and they had *years* together before Mary, so....
:)
*twirls you*
