roxy: (Lucifer reading by theextrac00kie)

It's kind of fascinating to see all the different feelings people are having about 7x17 ep. If I hadn't seen the show, I'd barely recognize it from some descriptions. I have my own feelings about it, and on the whole they're positive. I think the viewers were asked to fill in some of the blanks and that never goes well. I think we got shortchanged by the story being so compressed, there was a hell of a lot that could have been explored, and certainly I wanted to see more background on our friend. But a major plus to the ep was watching Sam fall to bits. JP did a fabulous job of that. Watch those scenes with Lucifer and then imagine that you've come across this Sam guy in the middle of an empty room, just you and him...

Mr. Pellegrino is really terrific to watch. He's got something about him that makes him an interesting actor, no matter the role. Really, they couldn't have chosen a better Lucifer. Watching those two together, acting off each other was a pleasure. On the other hand, watching Cas and Dean's scenes were not as pleasurable. There was a little feeling of off the entire time. Not sure if it was meant that way or not, but there was little chemistry in those scenes. Sad, because that was always a hallmark of JA and Misha's scenes, to me. Mind you, I might be a little harsh concerning them since they were so upstaged, in my opinion, by Luce and Sam.

Meg, she just keeps turning up like a bad penny or an unpaid bill. I've liked her in all her incarnations, there's something about this awful thing that remains more fascinating than Ruby ever was--well at least until we began to realize what bad news Ruby really was. I've liked both actresses to play the role, and that odd thing that this actress does with her voice, the odd inflection and what-not, I confess I like (boy am i in the minority there!) I think it's because I'm reminded of actresses of the 30s, and I'm not even sure why. It's this weird thing that makes me focus on her, to the point that I forgot to look at Dean! For minutes at a time!

So much happened too quickly in the end, but I think what happened was Cas took Sam's memories of hell, or maybe the immediacy of those memories. That's what I took the red veiny-transfery thing to mean. What that means in the long run to Sam and to Cas remains to be seen. I'm afraid Show's going to go with 'look sam's all better now', which would kind of suck, but it's one way they can get past everything that's happened to these guys in the last few years and maybe put them on a more equal footing again. But if it was me, I'd have had them bonding over sitting around and comparing their different versions of Hell, and you know what that means? Means it's damn good no one is paying me to write shit.

Oooooooh, i so loved this ep. I haven't *seen* anything bad about it, but i've seen mentions of fan-hate and i just *la la la not listening!!*

I love that Dean has been carrying Castiel's coat with him all this time, transferring it from trunk to trunk of every craptastic car he's stolen, tucking it away and keeping it with him because, you know...just in case....

I *loved* loved loved Sam-as-crazy-person. Mr. Padalecki was *awesome*. All the little twitches, winces, flinches. It just made me want to wrap him up and cuddle him and sing him to sleep.
*pets him*

I love that even while he's falling apart, Sam still sees someone else's pain/problems and helps. Yay, Sam! But - omg - he got up in the middle of the night and *left Dean* and went for his midnight run/stagger and took *some fucking drug* from some random drug dealer and OMG SAM, what the fuck, you poor thing....

And then Dean, just *desperate*. Calling, calling, calling people. Much like Sam did waaaaaaaay back in 'Faith', when Dean was dying and he needed something - anything. And they both got a faith healer, only Dean's was 'real', and it was CASTIEL, and omg, demons everywhere and Castiel doesn't *remember*!!!!!
*cough*

And then he did and that was glorious, so glorious. And so heartbreaking. And Dean was right there saying 'you thought you were doing the right thing'. Not *forgiving*, but telling him he understood. Wanting his fucking friend back *so damn bad*.....

I think Castiel simply took Sam's 'illness', his insanity, the hallucinations. I don't think he took Sam's memories at all, simply the effect of them, and of Lucifer. But there are theories (it must be bunnies) that because Sam is the vessel, that he's actually talking to actual Lucifer, a wee little thread to him down in the Cage, like when Castiel talked to Raphael's burnt-out vessel. So now, instead of Lucifer having a line to Sam, he's got a line to Castiel. And Castiel is an *angel*, and he ca survive and deal with that much, much better than Sam can, and I think he'll be okay, eventually, or at least cope much better and without all the side effects, like dying from not sleeping.

MEG! Meg meg meg. I love her voice, too! I think she's awesome, i think she's running a game and will get herself killed *or* she'll become the new Crowley..... I think, too, she'll actually look after Castiel in the hospital because she sees a use for him so.....

EEEEEEE!! I just loved every damn minute of it. and omg, the little journal that flew off the table - BOBBYY???? *flails* Awesome stuff, bb. Awesome stuff. :)

*wow, i rambled in your lj. sorry!*

I LOVE that you rambled in my LJ--that's what posts like this are for! *GGG*

I love that we love the same thing about the show, too and *thank* you for loving Meg--I felt so alone in my Meg love! I agree, she will look after Cas because demons seem to do that. They seem to have their own twisted version of caring--Ruby definitely cared for Sam in her own self-centered, self-serving way, at least a little and it looks to me like Meg has some kind of agenda that possibly includes Castiel--this will be interesting to see as it plays out!

I think Castiel simply took Sam's 'illness', his insanity, the hallucinations. I don't think he took Sam's memories at all, simply the effect of them, and of Lucifer

Yes, I think that's more like what I meant--that the crippling aspects of holding those memories are gone with Castiel. I saw that some folks theorize that HalLucifer was actually a snippet of Lucifer's grace infecting Sam. It's an interesting idea and it would explain just what it was that Cas did with Sam. But I guess I would prefer it to be hallucinations instead. I'd like to think that Sam had been free of all their bullshit once he got his soul back, no matter how messed up he was. It's not a big thing, not much of a quibble really and either way works for me--I just want them to be *free*, you know?

Man, JP knocked it out of the park with that ep. He's been so *good* this last few seasons, so good that I rewind bits just to watch some particular thing he's done. I think an appreciation for him kind of snuck up on me, because Jensen is like the sun and tends to blot out everything around him. I was so totally impressed by the way he played TotalCrazySam. Great acting, great direction.

And yes, yes--tell me that's not Bobby! No way it's not! And also, Frank's not dead, he's just cagey as hell. That's my thought and I'm stickin' to it. ;)

Ah, if you mean Lucifer reading, it's one I snagged from [livejournal.com profile] theextrac00kie!

I agree re the ghost brother--that was just for Sam, and you're right, whether Lucifer was real or not, it proved to both of them that Sam still had some part of himself free and able to make the right kind of choices.

I love Meg & agree - she's got those sassy, old school inflections.

My favourite thing was exhausted Sam solving a case even as he was falling apart.

I liked the tension of the earlier JA/MC scenes - will Cas remember? Nice to hear MC using his own voice.

The ending puzzled me because I thought Cas would be plagued by his own memories, not Sam's. (ie, visited by the angels he'd killed.) But Pellegrino sticking around is fine by me.
