These shoes surly make a statement about the lengths that women will go to while trying to capture the height of beauty along with the pain they’re willing to endure to achieve this!
Aside from the fact I'm not sure why the shoes would be "surly," I'm not sure they really make a statement about anything, since they're so far down the slippery slope fallacy it's ridiculous. It's to the point that they completely undermine what high-heeled shoes are supposed to do, forcing her to squat like that. Though I will grant you, they're pretty scary.
I looked at it as performance art and the shoes as wearable art and maybe tweaking love of shoes somewhat. If they're making a statement, I think that it says more about what designers will foist off on the public than what women will endure.
But they really are some scary shoes--that odd gait she has in order to walk. That's like a mini-horror movie right there!
If you saw someone wearing those shoes coming at you in a dim hallway, wouldn't that make you scream? The world is full of strange and interesting things.
Frightening is right. My first thought was some ballet-related thing, since her feet are almost entirely extended in an en pointe sort of position. At least the article does explain it. Sort of. On the other hand, my instinctive reaction is to say, "Some people have too much time on their hands." Because really, how does this add anything to the world?
I guess maybe it was art pointing out the foibles of humankind...or that women are the helpless victims of a misogynistic fashion world ooooor some people have too much damn time on their hands. :)
I saw this a small while back! it IS creepeh. I didn't check the article, but I'm guessing it's an artsy-metaphor message, showing how *ridiculous* most fashion-show-shoes are (what, with all the stick-thin barely-able-to-stand!models trying to walk without breaking every bone in their legs and feet).
But a quick p.s.; think you could give the link instead of embedding? I hate to be a pain, but the vid starts automatically, no on button needed, and it took me a minute to figure out where the music was coming from!! AND it loads slow on my comp. Vimeo always does. So it's all halted and weird!
YES! Omg, I'm so sorry, I noticed that this morning it's so irritating but my brain didn't take the extra step to fix it--oy! *MMMWAH*!! Thanks for telling me! :)
I know! And late at night, when it's all quiet and I'm alone and suddenly music starts out of nowhere--scares the shit out of me!
Annoying things I click away from.Ii never get to know if the person is cool otherwise because no time for that! I'm old, I don't have to be nice anymore. ;)
I think that it says more about what designers will foist off on the public than what women will endure. That's just what I was thinking. I've often had that feeling when I see what some top models parade down the runway with.
