lemme ask you something--why are we (as in fandom, not the royal we) supposed to donate to Jensen's baby fund? Because when celebs say, 'oh please donate to XX charity', what they really mean is 'don't send your stupid gifts to us we don't want that shit'.

Come on, these folks make more money than god, or at least more money than probably my flist's combined salary. What they spend on stuff for their kids could feed someone like me for a month, probably two. Three. Why would you (as in random nutjob you, not *you* specifically,) even contemplate taking your hard-earned pelf and spending it on someone who you don't know and again, does not want your shit and does not shop at the places you shop? Even if you get your Aunt Madge to knit one of her famous afghans (or however you make an afghan) that everyone in town just adores and hopes like anything to get one for their own spawn, celebs are gonna--well, more than likely never see it--don't they have people for stuff like that? I know if I was a celeb I'd have people for that.

I guess some folks feel a connection with the actors they see on their screen every week. I know I do. I feel this deep connection with Jensen and Jared, and it expresses itself in writing and reading some really nasty stuff about what they do with their down time. I know, heart-warming, right? *waves hand* Told you I was crabby.

In totally unrelated news, I am very much enjoying our watch of The Walking Dead. BG and I are totally immersed. I'm going deaf from her constant fear-filled shrieks. Very amusing! And the little kid, Carl? Holy shit, that kid's a G! There's a little Dean for you!

Okay, I'm actually going to post this instead of deleting it.

I have never understood that either. I think that some people honestly believe that if they donate to his baby's charity, Jensen himself will show up at their door to thank them personally. He will take one look at them, fall madly in love and leave said baby and wife to live happily ever after with them and a unicorn. You know how cuckoo some of these fangirls are. Don't get me wrong I fully support donating to charities. But do it because it's a good thing to do and not just when a celebrity is having a baby. I do however commend them for knowing that even if they ask people not to send gifts, they will anyway and using it as an opportunity to raise money and awareness for whatever charity.

Yeah, I never really understood that myself either. I figure it must be a whole different level than fan than me! I'm glad that they at least try to redirect fan's giving impulses towards charity. Who knows what they do with all the gifts people still give them though? You must be right that they have "people" that handle all that for them.
Isn't Walking Dead great? Carl changes so much from season to season, which one are you on? And I'm the one screaming and freaking out, my poor teenager that watches with me is always worried I'm going to have a heart-attack or something.

That is a level of fan I haven't been since I was twelve years old and wrote Leonard Nimoy a long chatty letter about his dog, fully expecting a chatty letter in return. After all, he had to know I was his biggest fan! And I'm pretty sure' people handling it" translates into "people throwing things in the trash for them". :)

We're just coming into the home stretch on season three. Carl has changed *so* much!
And I'm the one screaming and freaking out, my poor teenager that watches with me is always worried I'm going to have a heart-attack or something.

LOL!! I really fear for my child, with the leaping and the screaming! I have to admit, they've caught me once or twice. mostly I'm covering my face and hiding from the gore. My word, that is one really gut-and-blood-filled show!

THIS. I am not that kind of fan at all and it pisses me off when celebrities do that kind of thing; not to mention the fact that fans like that just hop-to and do what they say. No. No. And also? NO. Fact check: They do not care about you. They will never care about you. You are, in essence, nothing to them. In sending them things or giving XYZ charity--the charity they tell you to--money, you're only embarrassing yourself/selves and making them feel really fucking smug about half the time. I think it's arrogant and presumptuous for the celebs to be all, "Oh, so hey, keep your Wal-Mart shit to yourself, but give like... 300 bucks to this charity I am telling you to donate to." Mostly, I don't care about celebrities as people because of the whole it does not matter, we are not all interconnected, we will likely never meet and if we did, I probably wouldn't like them as people (and vice versa because I'm a charmer *koff*). The whole going apeshit over babies thing doesn't even begin to compute with me, but when it's the baby of some person you've never met and who really probably thinks very little of you, the fan(s), aside from the fact you're the reason they're sitting on a small mountain of cash then it is doubly fucking ridiculous. I think, actually, the word I am looking for is stupid. Yes. Stupid. Why? Because they are USING you and you're letting them do it. You know what they are (a lot of them anyway)? At the end of the day they're the popular kids in high school that everyone wants to be friends with and so will eat dirt if they ask them to. It's sad and it's disgusting. Suffice to say, I like characters, but I really do not like celebrities, especially not actors/actresses--any of that is subject to change should hell freeze over one day and I become bestest friends forever with... shit, Idk... whoever. But probably not, they'd be the exception; not the rule.

And trufax: I am sick to death of hearing about babies in general. I don't like children even a little bit and so, to have it constantly shoved down my throat (I am not referring to you at all) is tiresome and annoying. Some people just don't want to know about that. On a completely, 100% me note, when said celebrities do up and decide to breed they lose about 65-80% of their sex appeal/eye candy-ness to me and that really sucks because with me that's about all they ever had in the first place. JDM and Jared are neither one nearly as hot to me as they once were (although I still think Sam's hot, go figure. sanity: I have it in spades). Jensen... eh. I've never found him that hot (PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME) but still... gross. Damnit. Now they're daddies. I know a lot of people think that's so cute, but I do not, so I'll just toss that particular wad of kidophobia onto my personal pile of DNW.

Oh, look, I ranted with (at?) you. It's irritated me for a long time, but I didn't realize just how angry I was until I read over this. Oops. Sorry for the spew, delete if you disapprove.

Gosh, now me, I don't blame the celebs at all. They're just trying to deal in the least offensive way ( in my opinion) with the truly stupid desire of fans to insert themselves in some way into the celebs lives. Celebs can't really step forward and say "omg, keep your trash to yourselves" because they need to keep the job, which means being nice to fans. Being nice is guiding fan impulses into some way that will be useful to someone. And I bet they still get tons of crap anyway.

On the whole, I don't notice kids--they don't register much. They're cute and all as long as someone else is holding them. It doesn't change the way I feel about an actor if they spawn because I'm really only interested in the* idea* of the person. In my mind, they're all jerks anyway. This has never been a problem for me because I've always found assholes kind of amusing and entertaining, never having been the least bit interested in falling for one. :)

I'll seriously consider forgiving you for not finding Jensen the End-All-Be-All magic holy grail of sexiness. It'll be hard, mind you...the Baby Jensen is crying now....

I do agree that they're trying to make the best out of a potentially clusterfucked situation, no doubt. What gets me is that they choose the charities and direct people there--and they go... and the celebs KNOW they will go. Hence the presumption and frankly, I find it to be a bit manipulative. I am vilely cynical though and misanthropic to boot, so my thoughts/feelings are of course not a reflection (or meant to be) on the actions and choices of others. I do maintain that on the part of some fans, however, it is sadly delusional to think for a minute these celebs really give a damn about you (generally speaking). And sometimes they actually DO use the things people send them, if it's convenient. I read all about Jensen using a Starbuck's gift card some anon fan sent him and reloads every month. But it's the "use" part that really gets me. If they were to say something more along the lines of, "Instead of knitting an afghan, please donate X amount of money to the charity of your choice," I still wouldn't do it, but it'd be more... decent, imo, than saying, "Here, give to this charity that I picked out because I told you to." And sometimes, sometimes being a little harsh wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. I don't mean be a steaming pile of ASSHOLE about XYZ thing, but be firm; cruel to be kind, etc.

On the other hand, sometimes the celebs are at fault, at least to a degree (not saying it's either of the Js, mind). One that comes immediately to mind is Jared Leto. While I like his band (or did until This is War came out) what he does with/to his fans, how he riles them up and really sends them over the edge into "straight jacket worthy" territory is completely his fault and 30 Seconds to Mars fans are fucking insane. He knows it and he encourages that level of obsessive nutjobbery to a truly scary degree; to the point where the fan (and band) motto is: "This is a cult." Scary thing about that statement is... it is. They're violent, they're rude and just assholes in general. I may like the music, but you could not PAY me to go to a 30StM concert because of how the Echelonians are and how Jared (and the rest of the band to a far lesser degree) encourages their crazy. That's a worst case scenario, but it's also an example of how certain celebs do allow that kind of insertion in their lives--to their own detriment and to others as well, like casual listeners/fans. 30 fans are the kind of people that would kill Jared Leto to "save him". He knows it, too and he just keeps feeding that monster. *shudder*

I am interested in the idea of a person myself, but I find children to be terribly unattractive "accessories" and so because of my hideously overactive imagination, once I know they have kids... I can't think about the idea without Junior factoring in somewhere. In a lot of ways I don't even think of celebrities as being real, which is fucked up and again, all me, but I don't. They live in a parallel universe where I can see into their world, but I cannot go (nor do I want to) and they deign not to step over into mine because EW, commoners. Musicians (save Metallica, who're AWFUL--like verbally abusive to the Nth degree--to their fans) aren't quite as bad, but the egos get to me after a while, regardless.

Thank you for considering forgiving me. And I hope you'll forgive my babble of the negatively cynical variety as well. *crosses fingers*

Oh and The Walking Dead... I can't watch that show (cannot deal with zombies, nuh-uh) but man, Norman Reedus. Just allow me a small: REEEEEEDUUUUUSSSS.

Okay, that's better. :D

I pretty much agree with everything you say but now I'm all AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW about Jensen and the Starbucks card. See? I fall for that stuff too, sometimes. I mean--it's got Jensen (or as I refer to him in the privacy of my mind, The Epicenter of the Universe) it's got coffee--we only need to throw in a cranberry scone and--OMG. Best. Day. Ever.

I do tend to see actors as not being 'real' myself, which is totally how I justify RPS. In my mind, it's about some actors who are playing these characters, J and J, in a little movie of my own choosing.

Jared Leto sounds really scary. If you know that you have that kind of power over certain folks, than that is some really fucked up shit to do.

Also let me join you in this: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDUUUUSSSS! I loved NR in Boondock Saints and I love NR in WD. That is all.

YESSSSSSSS!!! What my icon says about what I think about fan peoples who so desire to buy crap for said actors and their families (and then so desire to waste the time of a full auditorium of people at Cons handing said shit over). That said - I'll confess right now I gave Jared a CD in Rome last year when I went up for an auto cos I'm antiquated & wanted to share good music with him. We had a moment where he had to remember if he even had a CD player. *shrugs* I believe both managers of the boys would probably have advised AGAINST them stating what they really feel about stupid fan gifts and receiving said shit, both managers probably said HEY HERE'S A WAY TO NOT GET THAT SHIT AND STILL LOOK GOOD DOING IT! BOOM! CHARITY fund :)

Jensen and Jared mop their relieved brows and go "Phew! Glad we figured out a way to get out that shitpile of awkward" except for how there will still always be those fans who still insist on giving them shit for their families at these things. Just in case they can't afford it for themselves or wait...didn't have time to shop. *eyes did indeed roll*

So in no way do I think we are SUPPOSED to donate. I think we are asked to just so the Ackles don't end up with container loads of crap and also so Jensen can brag to Jared about how his baby made more for charity than his baby. But there are also those delusionals out there who will take it as a personal slight upon the Ackles godliness if you so choose not to. I'm choosing not to. Ackles gets my money in other ways ;)

Oh and Carl??? His surname is really Winchester. Of this I am convinced. Love that he's more badass than his Dad now :) Can't miss TWD!!

As for the pleasure you get from donating, well, you have to do what pleases yourself, right? And if it helps someone else along the way, that's even better.

No harm done, hon. I just felt a bit insulted after reading all the posts made in response to yours. I don't often have the money to give to charities the way I'd like, so when Jared and Jensen ask, I give if I can. I don't do it entirely for them, but because the charities they choose are usually worthy ones.

If people don't want to give, it's their decision. No harm, no fowl. I just felt that those of us who want to give shouldn't be looked down on, no matter our reasons for doing so.

I think they pick the charity because they KNOW 2 million blankies/sweaters/onesies/endless barrage of baby items will descend upon them, and they figure, might was well deflect that good will into something actually helpful. And avoid a warehouse full of baby crap ;-) I don't know anything abut Jensen's (Danneel's!) obscure choice, but I thought Jared's designation of St. Judes at least pertained. And at least they matched the total donation themselves. Best of an iffy situation.

Of course, MY afghan would be AMAZING and the SPECIAL one, picked out of ALL THE OTHER LOWLY AFGHANS SO SUCK IT, YARNIES!! ;-)

I think of Jared and his beloved bride as being a little more real than Jensen and Daneel. From the occasional bits of news I glean at the gossip comms, it sounds a little to me like they're living in Oz. I guess it's because I haven't seen pics of Jared's ostentatious house, or read tweets, twits, how do you say, from Jared's in-laws like I have Jensen's. His brother in law sounds like a classy dude. Oh gosh, what is it with me and picking on Jen and Danni? (we're close like that, we have pet names for each other. I call them Jen and Dann, they call me StalkerCallTheCops)

Is that a cross-fandom phenomena or unique to SPN? I've never heard of baby fundraisers before. I can imagine with all the Cons they do, Jensen getting progressively buried under a pile of teddy bears!

I feel this deep connection with Jensen and Jared, and it expresses itself in writing and reading some really nasty stuff about what they do with their down time. I know, heart-warming, right?

*shakes head at the crazy people*

BUT this made me laugh: "I'm going deaf from her constant fear-filled shrieks." Haha!! I wish I had someone to watch that show with! It's so great, but I'll bet it's even more fun with a tv buddy -- even one who screams! ;D

*HUGS*

Man, those unexpected shrieks really add a new level to viewing! It is gangs of fun to watch a show with a TV buddy, even an excitable one like you-know-who...shhhhh!
