Today, I'm going to write, damn it, come hell or high water. And by write, I mean add to my stories. And I think I will post the one as a WIP. Hopefully it will motivate me. Or kill me as I try and type through my tears.

Greetings new friends! Welcome to the Rose fireside. Cookie? Porn?

So, tell me, what does kind of job can 25 years of experience folding shirts and hanging clothes get you? My current employer has decided to take the last little drab of Astroglide away. I expect a bit of ankle-holding--it's retail after all--but this is seriously ridiculous. The changes they're implementing really make it clear how little they value us as individuals. This was a place that actually was once upon a time fast, fun and friendly. Not so much any more. Well, fuck, not at *all* anymore. I have no skills!!! What can I do???

I'm too old for the leopard print daisy dukes anymore...*sigh*

Yup, it's just like this on the job....

I feel for you. I worked retail for six years before my at the time new hubby whisked me away from Arkansas to a college town in Kansa where l could not compete with the cheap labor known as desperate students. I ended up in childcare, another thankless job. I will say your sales/people skills would work for rental agencies, libraries, anywhere you deal with the public (dealing with the public is so under paid though.) *hugs*

When they moved me to the fitting room, I surprised myself (and my coworkers) by being pretty good with people. Childcare! *brrrr* That's an area I really suck at--I still feel sorry for my baby girl.

I will look into these other things. Time to think outside the big box. :D

On a more serious note...sorry the job sucks.

Thanks. Crap, I really liked this job. I don't understand why it has to suck now.

Awwww! That sucks, bb.

And, you know...i'm in your boat. That's why i'm working a job where they hired you if you had a pulse and a voice. I have *no skills* that don't pertain to fanfiction. Hire me to write or research and i'm your girl! But...yeah.
*sigh*

That sucks!! You have more skills than you think. Just because you haven't gotten paid for it, doesn't mean you shouldn't. Check out some not-for-profits. They are always looking for people with writing skills for grant applications.

What gingersnap said--you have many skills that you may not use in your current position. We all know you're a great story teller and you must be good with people to not shove hangers down their throats. Is there anything in your area that needs like a tour guide, or copy writing for ads, or some sort of welcoming/concierge/information person? You also are a good artist, maybe you can pursue that direction and do commissions. One of my boyfriend's friends designs patches and also does commission drawings on the side (he drew me a picture of Nightwing for Christmas). You are very clever and entertaining, and don't let Targhell take that away from you.

*HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGS*

Thank you! I'm going to take a look around the area and see what's available. I think I'll feel better just taking those steps, you know?

Roxy, Don't sell yourself short..! Skills you've got ! You're great at writing and hey you've not not killed or maimed anyone on the job yet! :> Look into other ventures and see what is out there. I have days where its like I say over and over I have 11 years until retirement and can I put up with this whacko bs that long?! Then I'll have a day where I make a difference in someones life for the better and it all evens out. And oh yeah I haven't killed or maimed anyone on the job either! Yay me! But it would be fun to be fashionably evol a time or two! Maybe I could get some tips on that ?! :>

I am pretty proud that I haven't killed or maimed anyone. :D In fact, I'm kind of surprised that I deal with people as well as I do! I have five years to go--and then, I'm retiring with a vengeance. I'm gonna set the alarm every day, wake up and yell "ef you!", smash it and go back to sleep. I realize that this will eventually become very expensive... :D
